Bank Account

I closed a Bankia bank account a few years ago.

Went into the branch office with all my paperwork.

After a lot of grumbling & sour faced looks they closed my account.

Calculated the remaining charges then slapped 452 euros & a few cents on the counter.

Job done.

Obviously move your DD's to your new bank account before closing the old one.

I don't think there is any sort of DD switching system between banks in Spain.

I closed my Sabadell account a year or so ago. I walked into the bank with my credit/debit cards which they destroyed on the spot. They gave me the few hundred euros that was in the account and that was it. No questioning why or anything else. 

I closed my bank account this month, I walked into the bank on Sept 20 and told them I wanted to pay the balance I owed and close my account, firstly they said they couldn’t accept payment that day for some reason so I therefore returned two days later and tried again which they accepted but it then took a further 3 weeks and 4 emails (which were ignored) and a call to customer service before they finally closed it. They also told me I could pick up written confirmation of this at the desk which turned out to be untrue like most information they have given me over the years hence why I closed my account. The bank in question was la caixa in los alcazares and the person giving the wrong information was named Lola. Having banked with many different over the years this is by far the worst of them all and I would never deal with them again.
