Hi All,

Having been a resident here in Spain for a few years now and like many people on this forum fed up with Spanish bank charges I have taken the plunge and opened a Wefferent internet account. Just messing about with it trying to see what it can do and saw an account switching option, just type in your IBAN and it will move the whole account over and delete the old account.

Back in the UK I used to use the uswitch facility which worked fine, but never come across this facility here in Spain (although the be fair I haven't looked that hard ;-) ).

Has anyone used this facility and if so did it work OK and have you had and issues with Direct Debits and Standing Orders afterwards? (I am particularly concerned about my IBI taxes which are paid twice a year for a 5% discount).

Many thanks, Jon

Switched to Cajamar Wefferent in Januarydid it at local branch in Isla Plana. Very helpful but had to arrange transfer of direct debits ourselves, which was very easy, so far no complaints about the account, all going smoothly. Not told anything about the switching option you mentioned so can’t help with that.

Hi Jon

I too changed to Cajamar in 2019, best think ever done in Spain, saved all those fees over 5yrs!. As we closed our Caixa account we then opened Wefferrent account same day so to ensure the direct payments were smooth I did it all myself, either using google translate or in person at Suma. All went extremely smooth and even if offered a switch process I still advise you do it to avoid any discrepencies. We were and still are non residents so this account has saved us €1000+. Highly recommended for non residents given the exorbitant high fees by most banks and now more residents paying fees too which were free or now have to add more unwanted services to remain free. Non residents must open in branch as online application wont work but being resident you,re lucky to apply online. You wont regret it.

Regards

Pauline

Many thanks Pauline, I have a small finance deal that is coming to the end so after that I will probably try and move everything over.

I may well give this switching service a go as it sounds quite interesting, but as you say check that everything has been done properly, and I will let the forum know how it goes :-)
