HSBC regrets to inform that it does not offer personal banking services in Spain, which also means that it cannot provide any assistance to personal banking customers of overseas HSBC entities.

Yes, I found this out after posting my question. After 2 years of using the mobile banking app with no problems, my ID and password are referred to as invalid!!! I've never changed them! Hey ho!

This post that was quoted has been deleted.
Fortunately I was able to access my bank accounts eventually. I sorted it out on the phone. Problems with the mobile banking app apparently. I Googled the problem - along with pages of others!
I won't be changing banks unless it keeps happening.
