Hi everyone,

I am a non resident property owner and trying to set up my utility payments / community charges etc via direct debit from my Starling euro account. Can anyone tell me if they have managed to do this please ?

Thanks in advance

Cheryl

Put Starling / Costa Calida in the search box at the top of this page & then have a read of the posts that come up.

Lots of useful info.

I myself use Transferwise for all my Spanish DD.

Hi Roland,

Have you moved DD from Bankia to Transferwise or you need to cancel existing ones and set DD with Transferwise?

Just got email from Bankia telling my account is blocked (!) because I need to sign the silly paper ( tax resident declaration) every two years which expired eventually with three months deadline obviously lost with instant punishment let alone  extra charges for (if) missing payments by the same bank!

Nearly nine years I got property here still can't learn how bureaucracy works here.

I closed the account with Bankia first then gave the utility companies my Transferwise bank details.

The Spanish system does not have a facility to automatically move your DD over to your new bank like the UK system of moving bank accounts has.

Yes I agree that the bureaucracy in Spain is very time consuming to say the least.

I have had a property for 18 years & it still makes me wonder how they manage to run a country never mind a bank.

Thank you very much for the answer.

Hi Roland

I'v read a couple of reviews on you opening Transferwise Account is that a Free Bank Account. How easy was it to set up Direct Debits on Transferwise Account as I would imagine it been difficult contacting Companies if you cannot speak Spanish.I paid my solicitor extra 2 years ago  to set up DDR for Council Tax and council still haven't set it up as yet.I was going to ask Solictor if I opened Transferwise Account if they would be able to set up DDR for me.As not happy paying Sabadell Bank their Chargers. Thanks

TransferWise is a free bank account.

I told my solicitor to change my DD to TransferWise.

Might be easier for you to do this as well.

My solicitor told me that IBI payments by direct debit can only come from a Spanish bank account.

And the TransferWise account you mention is located in Belgium....

Your solicitor is very wrong I am afraid.

I pay all my Spanish DD through TransferWise including my IBI Tax.
