I’ve just read that on Tuesday the government are highly likely to announce the scrapping of day 2 PCR testing on return to the UK and replace with lateral flow testing which are free.  If this is true this is a huge boost to the airline and travel industry.  Fingers crossed.

Does that mean refunds will be on their way.......

we are using Dante labs, £96 for the two of us (cheapest we could find, Randox no good for us). So far all is good, tests arrived when they said they would. We take the test tomorrow so will update when we get results.

I really don't see the point in these day 2 tests when we had to test before we flew out......

...

Right, an update!

Yesterday hubby and I got notified that we had been in contact with someone who has tested positive, which MUST have been someone on our flight home 😡 as we haven't left the house together at any time.

So we did all the required stuff and took a free PCR test (luckily there's a site a few minutes walk away and we got immediate appointments).

This morning both THAT test and the Dante Labs one we paid for have returned negative results.

So am happy with Dante Labs. Though it's a pity we couldn't book a Day 2 test at the same NHS place we did yesterday's test - wouldn't mind paying a fee if it went to NHS!

After looking at government list for day 2 test providers. Expert medical are no longer on there. They were the cheapest at £28.

Who is everyone now going with? Is it the next option Randox at £43???

Dante Labs was ok for us - £96 for two tests.

Took the tests on Thursday, posted in Priority Post Box same day and results back this morning (Sunday).

Yes indeed. The fact that we were pinged anyway as a result of the flight (can't have been anywhere else, since we were both pinged at same time) and had the option to take a free PCR test on NHS shows these paid for ones are not necessary.

Sajid David advises today that the current PCR tests taken when you return to the UK are going to be scrapped ONLY for those who are double vaccinated

Not sure from when though.....

From 1st October according to various news outlets.  States that Industry experts have been drafted in. I guess it’s that or they all go bust.  Lateral flow testing on return if double jabbed

From the reports I've read today, it all looks as vague as it always did. What is consistent is decisions based on money rather than medical reasons. Sky news reports Javid 'might' scrap the tests for arrival, but is DEFINITELY ruling out Covid passports, because that would cause serious financial hardship to those industries reliant upon the youngsters attending!

I'm caught up in the middle of this, hopefully starting my journey back tomorrow. My priority....to be safe, especially having put the last 18 months of my life on hold. but you simply cannot trust anyone in government.

It would certainly be a bonus for families, expensive enough for single travellers. Pity the summer months are now over though.

The reason passports are being scrapped is because of a back bench rebellion and nothing se. Up until now they have been following the advice of the experts...that was until Johnson realised for a change there would actually be a rebellion.
