Here is the updated RELIABLE info. from Embassy re exchanging your UK licence for Spanish one.

*Update for those who registered to exchange their driving licence with DGT before 30 December 2020*If you registered your details to exchange your UK driving licence for a Spanish licence before the end of last year, the deadline of 30 June 2021 has been extended until 31 December 2021, to allow you more time to complete your licence exchange. The DGT has also confirmed that both the green residence document and the TIE are valid proof of residence when completing the exchange. You can see the Spanish government's bilingual 'nota aclaratoria' that states the ongoing validity of the green residency certificate: https://www.inclusion.gob.es/.../nota_aclaratoria_green...If you have attempted to complete the exchange of your licence since 1 January but your application was rejected due to your TIE being dated to 2021, the DGT office will get in touch with you directly to arrange for the completion of the exchange. If this is your situation, and you do not hear anything after a few weeks, you should request an appointment with the DGT.The current date for recognition of UK licences for driving in Spain for those who are resident in Spain remains the 30 June 2021, however. This applies whether you registered before 30 December 2020 or have not yet started the process to exchange your UK licence for a Spanish licence. The UK continues to discuss arrangements for the future exchange of UK driving licences without the need for a practical test with the Spanish authorities Any further updates and information on driving licence exchange will be added to our Living in Guide so please sign up to alerts to be notified of any changes: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/living-in-spain#driving-in-spain

That is good to know but this is my experience; I have followed the guidelines for exchanging my driving licence for a Spanish one and duly completed all the documentation before the deadline in Dec 2020. According to everything I have read I just need to get an appointment to exchange the physical licence. Every time I have been on the DGT website for the last 5 months it says the same thing; the customer service appointments are full for the next few days. I have tried all the offices near me, Cartagena, Murcia and Alicante. Also, GB, UK has never been listed, I was told by somebody in the queue outside the driving centre (who had an apt and was sorting an exchange of licences for a client) that to get an appointment I needed to use Ireland from the country drop down. I live and work here with my family and we have our TIE. Can somebody explain why the UK/GB is not listed on the DGT appointment system and how do I get this appointment? Mike George

Like you, we followed all the rules and guidelines.   Then employed a Gestor to do the Licence swap application.    Did no good, we still got knocked back 'cos our TIEs(Applied for in Sept 2020) came back dated 5th Jan 2021!

I think I read that someone with the same issue as yourself, took all their documents down to the Police Station and they dealt with it there and gave them a return appointment to collect in....?  think it was 6 weeks later.

We are now considering our own options.  Hubby has started a spanish driving course and I'm going to try to get my UK exchanged....

Good luck.  I'm sure it will be OK.
