Been there and done that(over past 12yrs) and always same, the hire charge is so competetive, they have to get extra money somehow. I am in Spain at moment and only paid £86 for a whole month of carhire(full to full too)I always refuse extra insurance as I have" icarhire" excess insurance and ha...

...ving made a claim some years ago I couldnt recommend them any higher. They were brilliant, had my costs refunded within 2wks and so easy to deal with. The cost- £39 yr and if I put my hubby on my rental as a named driver he's covered too, so am I if I,m a passenger in any hire care. I use Autoeurope to hire my car through as I prefer them to doyouspain, but I constantly review the prices and cancel/rebook if it goes cheaper.

Where did you get a hire for 86 a month please?

I have previously rented most of time through "autoeurope" website and keep watching for best prices. That year was fantastic price as it was full to full, but I,ve had it even cheaper-£56 for a month in October, and I once stayed longer after November for 3 wks in Dec and paid £39 for month but took car back week early to get home for Xmas. You just have to keep checking prices well in advance although I,ve been lucky to get good prices just 1mnth beforehand. We,re coming out April 17th and I paid £107 for a month with with Doyouspain, as Autoeurope seemed to  have stopped full to empty and the price for a full/full car was £189 and I felt full/empty was cheaper overall. 5 to 10 yrs ago we were paying £300+for 2 and 3 wks carhire so today prices are a fraction of what they were so thats why they push the extras especially insurance but I always trust my own through icarhire insurance co.
