Dont know why these Car Companies try there best to Rattle their customers you would think they would be trying to hang onto customers.

The price of renting  cars is now ridiculous we are considering either purchasing our own or if all these uncertainties with travel restriction & testing continue might even try to sell up....

...

Totally agree if you reside in Spain. My brother has just bought a 7 seater for 3k and has worked out that if he uses it over 2.5 years it pays for itself…

I had the same problem few years ago with Goldcar. I contacted European standards agency and I did get my money back. They do it all the time

It was Gold car my friend had the problem with.

She is also still waiting ( 8 weeks now) for her fuel refund as it was a full for full deal.

I know times are hard but why take the chance of losing future business for a few Euros now?

The bad news for Gold car is that she is due back over this month so I do not think she will miss them and hit the wall.

We vowed never to use Goldcar again after a bad experience, the car broke down  and we were charged for recovery even though it was faulty (dud battery) not fit for purpose! we then had other issues in relation to getting a replacement  car, too long a story to recount. We wasted a day of our holiday. Did get money back through our insurance taken out in uk but still ended up out of pocket.

I just thought I would post this as a reminder and warning to others.

My friend returned recently from Alicante to discover that she had been charged for damage to her hire car. There was 'supposedly' a dent on the side of the car which 'they claim' was sustained during the hire period.

My friend is contesting this claim at present but is not too hopeful of a positive outcome.

I always do a full video of the car before and after the hire period and make sure 'where possible' that the car hire people see me doing so.

Apologies in advance if I am preaching to the choir here but my friend was unaware of this and has said they will certainly be taking a video of any future hire cars.

Just a quick update on this one.

My friend returned to Santiago De La Ribera last week via Alicante and promptly made her way to the Gold car reception.

When she questioned their representative about the previous damage charge she was asked if she had any photographic evidence that the car was not damaged when she picked it up and dropped it off.

When she informed them that she did not, they said that would probably be the end of it.

The reason for not returning the fuel charge was quite strange as they said this was just a standard charge! Really? 75 euros for a standard charge?

The one little piece of satisfaction she did get was to inform the other customers waiting to get their hire cars from Gold car to 'photograph or video their cars before and after their hire agreement period' something she assures me she will be doing herself in future. It's a pity it has cost her a total of 255 euros to learn this lesson.

An expensive lesson for sure.
If it were me I wouldn’t let the fuel charge go, I’d get in touch with GoldCar and ask for a copy of their fuel policy, I’d also contact the airport to ask what if anything they can do? I’m sure the car hire companies must have a service level agreement with the airport which should include their policies….

The likes of GoldCar depends on hirers not pursuing them.

On the bright your friend is back in La Ribera…..and where else would you want to be…
