Hi, looking to buy a 2/3 bed house in LA in next few months.  Probably will buy one that needs updating and wondered if anyone knows if there is a B&Q type place where they will come and measure up and fit kitchens/bathrooms?

Also most places we have seen have small windows.  Is there anywhere I can replace with a sliding glass wall?  Also, some places have metal staircases but I would want those replaced with brick ones?

It seems quite a lot but we have limited budget and would prefer to buy low and spend money to redesign etc to our taste.

Any advice would be very appreciated please.

Thank you, Rosemarie

LeroyMerlin at Zenia Boulevard is about 25 minutes away and does pretty much everything B & Q does. Not sure about more local availability only just arrived ourselves.

There are lots of DIY stores within about 20 minutes....Leroy Merlin...Aki, The General Store, Alpuente, Brico Depot...google them to see what they do! Lots of smaller independent kitchen suppliers too that aren't much more expensive. Theres always Ikea!

Hi Rosemarie,

I have been in the process of refurbishing an apartment in Santiago La Ribera for the past year, have fitted new windows, plaster boarded  and insulated the whole apartment new internal doors and kitchen,

I have obviously used most of the places mentioned but bought the kitchen from Ikea which had a very good choice and also do a fitting service which I used (wish I had not because so easy to fit) but that is hind site.

If you would like any help or advice I will be more than welcome to give this.

I have been in Spain for 20+ years

Take care and best wishes

Ed

Thank you so much Ed.  If we end up buying a house that needs updating I think you might be hearing from us.

All the best

Rosemarie

Thank you.  I think I'll have to get a good sat ab to find my way about.

Best wishes

The reason Spanish homes have small windows is to keep the near-50 degree summer heat at bay....the sun is best treated as an enemy, to be kept outside!
