I have a property in Spain but not a resident, I visit using the 90 day cycle. I have a Spanish Bank account. I have in the last few days an email saying my non resident status ends Jan 2023 and I need to upload documentation or under Spanish Law my bank account will be frozen. I assume this is normal? Also checking my Bank statement I seem to have been charged around €400 tax, seems a large amount as I don't hold much in my account. I'm in UK until Dec when I will call in at the Spanish Bank and they will no doubt explain everything to me, just curious if other non residents have had similar charges.

Gerry, I am an EU non resident and have not received any notification about my non residency coming to an end and find it odd that it would come from the bank.

Is there any chance the email is about your non residency tax? The NRT is based on the IBI bill which is perhaps what the €400 relates to? And as far as I know it must be paid by the end of 2022…

I think I might have found why it has been sent. I haven't provided a Certificate of Residence from HMRC. I believe this needs to be provided fir proof UK is my main residence. And I believe the this can be given to the Spanish Bank .

As I said in another post I think I have found the reason why . I believe I need to provide a Certificate of Residence from HMRC to prove UK is my main residence.
