Each community decides its own fees for the current year at the AGM and sometimes has to include "extras" to cover improvements to the complex which may not figure on the normal breakdown of the fees, so it would be difficult for outsiders to compare one complex with another. Every community should have an AGM each year, the official minutes of which should include the breakdown of costs for the year, and this should be inscribed in the "Libro de Actas", signed by the President within 10 days of the AGM and then stamped and registered with the Registro de la Propiedad. The Registro de la Propiedad will have copies of all the details of the AGMs held in each area along with copies of every house escritura (Deeds) in the area. Copies of all these documents are available from the Registro on payment of sum of money but where would you start? I would recommend that you start your property search by viewing the properties that you like and then find out the costs involved afterwards. Another thing to take into consideration is that you only get what you pay for! Low fees often mean that the community hasn't spent any money on itself for a long time. There is also a lot of property on the market that doesn't involve any community fees, which over the years, can save you quite a lot of money and also those inevitable quarrels with the neighbours on the community who refuse to pay their fees!
