Hi All, has anyone had any experience in registering a car in Spain that is currently registered in France? We have found a left hand car we may be interested in purchasing from a garage in London and bringing over to Spain (non residents) but worried about the registering of it. Any information / experience would be very helpful! TIA Angela

Yes. We did it two years ago. We used Felix Conesa of El Algar. He did the whole process including ITV (Controle Technique), tax and new number plates. Cost about 600€. You´ll Felix on the net...he has a car dealership and workshop on the main drag in El Algar. He also speaks perfect English.

Many thanks  Bill, can I ask was the car you re-registered also registered in France? Just wondering if this complicates it or not?

Yes bought and matriculated in France. NO DIFFICULTIES AS LONG AS YOU HAVE ALL YOUR PAPERS.

Thanks Bill!

Hi Angela! Sorry my reply went into capital letters! My probs with big fingers and small mobile!

Most important document is the "Certificate of Conformity", which is issued with the car when it is delivered to the selling dealer. If you do not have it, you can request it from the manufacturers head office in the country where the car was sold. You only need to give them the VIN number of your car. It is a 17 digit number which is absolutely unique to your car. Best, Bill.

We lived in France fir 14 years before relocating to Spain in 2016. We brought our 2012 Citroen C3 with us, had its first test before leaving France, Left hand drive, French car, with tow bar. In Spain the car had to be retested, the tow bar had to be one fitted by a Spanish company with certificate, our tow bar was fitted by Citroen when we bought tge car new, This was not good enough although we had paperwork to prove this. In the end we took tow bar off. This, including re-registering cost just under 1000 euros. Unless you buy in .Spain don’t expect things to be cheap.
