Hi

After recently purchasing an apartment in San Javier on one side of the road and Los Alcazares on the other side we want to bring our staffy over in April for 5 weeks to our apartment.  We have the rabies microchip etc and will get AHC within 10 days of travelling but I notice that Staffys are on dangerous dog list and need to be registered at Town Hall .  Does this apply if we are only coming for 5 weeks holiday or if we are living permanently.

I just don’t want to get to the ferry and we don’t have it?

Many thanks

Janet

Residents have 3 months to register so not necessary if visiting for 5 weeks but it will have to be muzzled at all times and have insurance… obviously microchipped too.

If you're just here on holiday, then he/she won't need to be registered, but you will need to keep he/she on a lead and muzzled at all times in public places.

For dogs in general, you can only take them on dog friendly beaches; and, whilst I have found that the locals are quite happy to have small dogs in bars & restaurants, they don't feel the same about larger dogs, but you should be okay on outdoor terraces, etc.

For the future, as you own a property here, you may want to explore registering your dog in Spain and getting an EU pet passport. This would mean that you wouldn't have the inconvenience & cost of an Animal Health Certificate every time you travel over. You still need the jabs, etc. but as your dog is registered in the EU, you don't need an AHC when coming to the EU.

Hope this helps!
