GrahamG - perhaps you should go back to bed. 🤣 If it’s so boring, why are you still looking?

Firstly, I don’t believe that the number of dyslexics correlates to the amount of shoddy posts on here. Methinks this is merely an excuse.

‘Tidy home, tidy mind’ springs to mind.

Seriously, maybe those who think it’s unimportant would like to buy books with dreadful standards of grammar and spelling?

You make a big statement about dyslexic person, but that is only one disability that is well known, and in that statement you discriminate against all with a disability, being in a poor upbringings or other.

There is a big difference between books you purchase I would expect these to be well proofed by professional proof readers a totally different then than the posts on here and other BB's.

On the odd occasion I now read a newspaper which someone has paid for the standard is not that of books, I sometimes wonder if they now have proof readers.

Clearly your comment about books and posts on here show a lack of understanding about the world for someone who want to preach about standards that astounds .

Cat47. Please note this is a community forum where people go to get help or to help, not a English examination.

Your requirement that grammar and spelling  in posts on this community forum be perfect would seem at odds with that.

If people's grammar, spelling or typing skills is so bad that you don't understand what they are trying to say, then you can always  PM people so they can correct major mistakes.

I fear that your call for correctness will reduce the level of community participation and I am sure no one wants that.

Oh goodness me! There was no disrespect intended to anyone. I did not start this particular point and it is not MY requirement that all grammar should be perfect.

I now wish I hadn’t bothered joining in, since so few people think it’s of any import.

(Yes, of course there are people who are dyslexic or have difficulties, but I still find it hard to believe that it accounts for such a high percentage of errors.)

I suppose I found it quite comforting that someone else actually thought it mattered.

OK. You did not start the thread.

Perhaps a more helpful approach for the original poster, might have been like this

Better posts!  If you are worried that your spelling and grammar is not as good as it could be, there is a simple free solution

www.grammarly.com  offers a free spelling and grammar checker, that is compatible with all kinds of computers and phones. Its like a free grammar and spelling coach. It will check for typos and grammar rules you never learned sitting at the back of the class flicking paper balls at the girls (or boys).

It works seamlessly checking emails, or Word docs. or Forum posts.

There is a paid version too, but unless you are in business you really wont need it. The free version will help you with tricky little things like 'they are' , 'their' and 'there.' and 'loose´´ versus 'lose'  Give it a go!!

Any other free grammar and spell checker anyone wants to recommend?

Agree. Grammarly is also a great educator. Personally, I just like to be able to read and understand what the contributor's point is. Sometimes this can be difficult. Maybe just read the post before sending. If you're happy with it that's all anyone can ask. If others don't get it, it's not the end of  the world. Relax everyone. Enjoy life. It's too short.!!

You’ve opened a can of worms here! Great fun.

My whinge is when people can’t spell properly where they actually live!

That could be a real problem, if they cannot find their way home :)
