Try Aguilas. A real Spanish town, miles of beautiful beaches, a gorgeous town square surrounded by around 30 cafes and restaurants, shops galore, a great shopping plaza and, most importantly, virtually no British tourists that perpetuate the urbanisations in Southern Spain, wanting to live exactly as in the UK but with continual sunshine and after 20 years of residence still not able to speak a word of Spanish. Aguilas offers the real Spain, just 175 kms south of Alicante. Sheltered by mountains, home of Spain's finest Carnival, and because of its lack of foreign tourists the prices are all local prices, not inflated. One euro 80 cents for half a tostada, tomato, jam, coffee and juice in the Town Square. Three course lunch of the day with a drink for 6 euros 50 cents. Wonderful.
