We had a lovely little pug dog called Bella that had a beautiful nature and a great personality.

She used to follow me everywhere, she thought that I was her boyfriend and wouldn't leave me alone.

Yesterday at 2pm she had a massive epileptic fit so we rushed her to the vet.

But the bloody vet was shut for siesta !

We tore round to three vets including the one in Sucina but they were all shut ,

By the time the vet reopened she was dead.

There was no emergency phone number posted outside any of them.

I'm distraught and spitting blood - why the hell do vets have a siesta, doctors don't.

My heart goes out to my friend, so sad when you lose your 4 paws pal, and I can feel your anger and frustration about the situation you found yourself in.  Are we saying there isn't a 24hr emergency vets nearby, if so, that does alarm me.  Excuse my ignorance on the subject,  I've not yet moved out there,  but as a dog family, would be concerned if this was the case as we are moving shortly?

As far as I know there is no 24 hour emergency vet anywhere on the Costa Calida or inland.

If there is one I'd love to be corrected.

I'm so, so sorry about Bella. Our local vet Alfonso has come out to us or met us at his clinic outside of opening times on several occasions over the years. Once he came to our house at 10pm to put our lovely old boy to sleep after a stroke. Perhaps we are lucky in Cehegin and this is not the norm.

Sorry Costacruiser, I know this info will not help you personally.

The nearest 24hr emergency vets seems to be in Murcia City, within the grounds of the University of Murcia: 'Hospital Clinico Veterinario. Tel 0868884724.

Certainly worth locating just in case you have to make that terrible journey, I know from bitter experience this is a must for any pet family.  Thoughts with you CostaCruiser.

So sorry to hear about your dog. We have a place in San Cayetano and have a brilliant vet in Valle de Sol. However, we recently realised that he did not offer an emergency contact number as the vets in the UK do. They suggested we use the 24 hour hospital in Murcia which we felt was too far for us. I googled it and have made a note of the emergency numbers in my phone in case we need them although we will continue to use our normal vet for other things as he is brilliant.

The vets are: Clinica Levante and Clinico Fauno in San Javier and Veterinaria La Ribera in Santiago de la Ribera. They all have 24 hour emergency contact numbers and if you google them you will be able to see exactly where they are. We have them set up in our sat Nav in case we need them. We haven't used them ourselves though.

Hope this helps.
