Flyer, I tried exactly the same online and got nowhere. So I raised a query withe their customer support and got this back (Google translated!)

Regarding your query, we inform you that you can go to any of our offices where our colleagues only have to record their data in our system and register in remote banking.  Once you have your passwords you can create your wefferent account from your client access profile: accounts> my acc...

...ounts> account opening

I have since been given a name of a helpful person in the Sucina branch and I will be seeing them next time I am out. What has been confirmed is that because Cajamar is a cooperative, they do need you to have 1038€ deposited to get free banking.

Is that Andreea? She's very helpful but told me exactly the same. You basically buy into a co operative with 1037 euros. She did say I can withdraw it ny time which seems a bit weird.

Are you sure that this is the Cajamar Wefferent account ??

I keep a very minimal balance in my Wefferent account less than 300 euro.

No charges at all in over 2 years.

Talk of a co operative makes me think it is a different account.

I, m only rejoining this thread to explain "cooperative bank". We were told Cajamar was started as a bank for farm workers on low incomes with no fees and they state non profit making. The description sounded to me like a credit union with all the functions of a big name bank. We weren't asked for a deposit as we deposited over 2000€ to start. It appears the initial opening has changed but once you get over that it,s still the best decision I, ve made in Spain. Roland is only person I know who has his working with a UK phone but my Spanish sim no. is used for both hubby's and my notifications. I am at least pleased that there are many more people who are happy with their account.

Regards

Pauline

Cajamar should not be making any charge for a Euro to Euro transfer in Spain.

They will more than likely make a charge to receive Euros from the UK.

I have made several Euro transfers to my Cajamar Wefferent account using Wise from the UK and Cajamar has never charged fees.

Additionally I have paid my Non- Residents taxes in Euros direct to Angar Taxation Services using Wise. Angar only charge about €39 per couple and pay the taxes directly into a Spanish bank on your behalf and send you the receipts. A brilliant service for which some lawyers in Spain charge up to €500!

Hello Pauline, I have an account with Cajamar for over 10 years and yes they are a very good and helpful Bank but now since 2020 ish I am being charged €35 every 6 months non resident fee and am charged €5 every time I use the debit card. I also have just downloaded the app as they wouldn't pay my comunidad fees without it but the app was a struggle and I couldn't get it in English. So perhaps this no fee thing is regional ?

All the best

We have just set up free banking, joint account, with Cajamar in Balsicas. To get this you basically have to become a shareholder that is what the 1038€ is for. The account we have is called Tarifa Capital Social. It took about 70 minutes in the branch, complete with getting both of our apps working...in English. Log on to app, click the 3 lines top left, then click on profile with picture of 2 people. Finally select language, which is the 4th option down the list.

So far very happy, but has only been a couple of weeks.

The only Cajamar account that is free to use is the Cajamar Wefferent account.

Your old Cajamar account is just like all the other Spanish banks, they charge for absolutely everything.

Perhaps it's time for a change & a move to a Wise.com account ??
