I am thinking of buying a small apartment in the Murcia area where I and my family can holiday and which I can also rent out. I am not sure which area would be best, I’m thinking easy reach of bars/restaurants/shops and the beach if possible. Would anyone have any ideas, advice on the best areas to buy to rent and also use myself. I’m thinking 1/2 bed £50k upwards. Many thanks.

My regular cycling trips include the blockbuster (well it is for me!) ride to Cartegena and back, some 32 miles.

In November it was an absolutely gorgeous day and so I spent a little more time exploring the city than usual. I came across the Military Museum and had a very interesting hour or so wandering around. What I couldn't believe was the amount of fighting that had gone on in the last 200 years within Spain itself. So I picked up a book in our local library yesterday on thus very subject. It's not an easy read being full of names, places and dates, but it confirms what has gone on.

Quite remarkable really and flies in the face of the experiences we have had since we bought our place in May. Such a welcoming country, full of fiestas and people seem to like a bloody good laugh.

Anyway, I'll try and plough through the book and I look forward to gaining more insight into Spain. What a fascinating place!

Hi, I'm looking to find some reliable car hire companies outside of the usual large firms that occur at the airports. From my experiences of doing something similar at Faro airport there are always 'off site' hire firms which are cheaper, but vary in quality and ease of use.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
