Thinking of taking my own car and driving down to Spain and staying there for 3 months , but making sure I’m out of Europe before the 180 days , so what do I need to do that , it’s been years since I took my car abroad and in those days you had to have a hi vis jacket a  warning triangle , had to sort your headlights out , so can anyone help , also do you have to carry your documents in the car like insurance when driving

Hi, I’ve done the trip 16 times. Yes carry all car paperwork including European breakdown insurance, go on Amazon and buy some stickers that reverse your headlights and a sticker for your car which displays UK not GB, with all that in mind I have never been stopped by the police. Try not to make friends with anyone in roadside restaurants. And park your car where you can see it. Cheers.

PS.Don’t forget you can only spend 90 days in any 180 and yes get some warning triangles.and carry some bottles of water in case of breakdown. I would have an update SATNAV.

And also do not stop for anybody that tries to flag you down on the road.

Also beware of cars flashing their lights & gesticulating at you trying to get you to stop.

Both well known tricks to rob you.
