This post that was quoted has been deleted.

It was a simple stay or leave vote - there were no other alternatives on the cards.

The only reason David Cameron allowed the vote was because he thought there was no way that it could return a leave decision. He promised the people a vote on the subject and that is what he delivered. His resignation after the result showed that he was far to removed from the feelings of the public at the time.

Obviously hindsight is a wonderful thing.

In the UK taking a driving test is not required for transferring a Spanish licence to a UK one. Alarmingly, a recent UK government publication advises that those who failed to register to exchange their UK driving licence to a Spanish one before 30 December 2020 may, from 1 July 2021, need to pas...

The European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen described the Brexit agreement as "fair" and "balanced". However, this view has clearly has not been adopted with driving licence exchanges. I'm sure I'm not the only one affected by this. Please let me know who is leading a campaign against the unfairness of driving licence exchanges. TIA

I notice you have not answered any of the posts, that people have taken the time to respond to?

Are you to busy setting up the campaign against the unfairness of driving licence exchanges?

Perhaps Poppy was expecting more support for her campaign and not to have to face up to the reality of the situation for her and others bemoaning the realities of Brexit....

Just my little pun... or was it a plum?

Tell me if I'm wrong? I think the original Q was about D Licence exchange?not the politics of brexit. As far as I'm aware you have a grace period until July 2021?.The reason for this is so many Brits have done last minute applications and the system ie DVLA and the Spanish side can't process etc.So go for it and get it done.As for them who moan about what if this and what if that ?it's done finished get over it and write something that would help this person get his or her  exchange.I did mine with a Gestoria? 50 EURO for medical as I'm LGV /HGV and 50 euro for the Gestoria to process. You must have you new TIE to do this or atleast the paperwork to say your application for a TIE is in process.Good luck.

Yes you are correct the OP was about changing driving licences.however not once was it mentioned that they wanted to exchange there licence, just complaining that they may have to take a test, if they did.

I would ask, have they applied or are they listing to hearsay?

Again the OP was the one that bought Brexit and EU into the equation (see below) and not comments from other posters.

Ummmmm does this apply to holiday home owners with a Spanish Car or just those who are lucky enough to be residents in Spain?

Sorry if this has been discussed previously!

How come most of the posts on this site recently are moaning about the effects of Brexit? In the UK it is mentioned nowhere near as much. As we all have to get on with it and make the best of a bad hand, yous have the upper hand in that you are already in Spain. Spare a thought for those of us who are only in the planning stages and sitting here in the rain envious.

A lot of questions on these ex-pat forums (the ones frequented by Brits) are variations on "how do I retire to Spain/can I get a job in Spain/if I move to Spain how can I get my children into school/how do I get healthcare in Spain?"

Completion of Brexit changes all these procedures. The qualifying financial levels are much higher, the process is completely different and much more difficult/expensive, and many people are now "frozen out".

Some Brits, who were already living in Spain (fully legally) before 31/12/20, have outstanding bits of bureaucracy to sort out - e.g. driving licences.

It is unsurprising, therefore, that Brexit remains a hot topic. If you are among the group of Brits who aspire/aspired to move to Spain, Brexit is the gift that keeps on taking.

Hi Flo

I am not exactly sure but would assume you would just need the international licence which I believe you can get from your post office'

If you hire a car here it would be on Spanish plates. I presume this would be the same with your car.
