...ake their own rules to govern their people. It was a witch hunt in every sense of the word and if you don’t get that you need to think again. For the record I am Irish but I still believe the British were and are being shafted.

The British (who want to move to Spain) are being shafted by EU rules which pre-existed Brexit, and which the UK helped to formulate while a member of the EU.

The rules are no surprise.

Britain chose to be a 3rd country, and these are the rules applicable to people from 3rd countries. The same rules apply to Canadians, Australians, Americans .... that list goes on and on.

People are just realising that Boris wasn't being entirely truthful (or was being over-optimistic) when he told everyone that they could have their cake and eat it.

The criteria was NOT created as a consequence of Brexit.....so ....Who led the witch hunt?

EU leaders led and are leading the witch hunt. Spain will change tact very quickly and will come to a mutual agreement with Britain to allow their citizens to exchange licences without taking a test. Exactly the same agreement they have with Switzerland, Korea, Japan and umpteen more non EU countries from around the world. The Spanish people will be the biggest allies the UK will have when loss of British tourists and their money start to hit home.

I really do hope so. An easy change that would be welcomed and could be implemented quickly.

They shafted themselves and the rest of us, many of whom didn't even get a vote on it, were all affected too! And now we have the constant whining from those Brits who voted for Brexit and are finding the reality is very different. Stupid is as Stupid does - but I feel sorry for those who didn't vote Brexit and are now suffering the consequences.

Funnily enough Mags the whining isn’t really coming from the British anywhere near as much as the EU.  Britain is looking after its citizens health better than any EU country reference vaccines, Sterling is at record highs, job losses because of COVID are minimal. Would everyone on this forum agree that Britain is the first of many EU countries that will leave the EU? May I also be allowed to say on Tuesday 23rd February 2021, that Italy will make known this year, their intention to leave the EU. The domino effect.

Oh dear..... the UK sounds so wonderful, one wonders why anyone would want to leave such a paradise, to go and live in one of those nasty EU countries! Or indeed why they would be posting on a forum aimed at people living in, or wanting to live or buy, in Spain! You did forget the mention that the UK also has the record number of deaths from a really appallingly-run Covid-19 programme!

I respect your points of view Mags, albeit misguided, and sarcasm is allowed I suppose in place of intellect, but that’s what forums are for. As I’ve pointed out earlier (for people who have been following the thread) I live in a wee EU country called Ireland so the UK doesn’t sound so wonderful to me. But I respect what they have done in relation to any other EU country regarding the well-being of their citizens. Rather than wallow in their misery of losing so many people to COVID I’d tend to commend them for the lives they have saved by their actions in becoming the leaders of science. You give credit where it is due. My wife and myself have all the hoops to jump through to achieve our dream of a home in the sun but we will get there. Mightn’t be where you are Mags but you never know x.

Amazing how history can be misremembered to suit an argument. Mellee said "Sterling is at record highs,".

When we bought in Malaga in 2005 we were getting 1 Euro for 70p, or 1.40 Euros to a pound. This was way before Brexit was mentioned.

I truly hope that you do manage to make it here Mellee 07! Many of us have been lucky enough to have been here for many years and have been living our own dream of living and working (and now retiring) in the country of our choice. Spain isn't perfect and there were also many hoops to jump through back in the day when Spain wasn't even part of the EEC and we had to leave every 90 days to get a new visa. Brexit has now made many people's dream of moving to Spain, an impossibility and it's a real shame. Good luck with yours!

But did the UK take action for the well-being of their citizens? Where are they on the league of deaths?

And taking or being the leaders in science......did they not pre-order, advance purchase the vaccination developed in the US? A good move but I don’t know it equates to the UK being leaders in science....and I know about the AZ vaccine developed there so no need to come back with that....

Looks like you are new to the forum....comments like ‘and sarcasm is allowed I suppose in place of intellect‘ is neither helpful and posters who use this type of insulting and unnecessary language can and often have been banned......manners go a long way...
