To take advantage of the current "known" entry conditions, you will need to gain Residencia this year (the pre-requisites are health insurance, regular stream of income to your Spanish bank, padron, NIE, house deeds/lease etc., proof of having paid the Residencia fees at a bank).

The qualifying requirements are expected to increase after end 2020 to be in line with those applied to people entering from other non-EU countries, i.e. those countries who do not contribute to EU finances, who do not accept EU residents into their countries without stringent processes, who do not collaborate educationally, who are not inside the EU trading/free movement zone, etc. That list goes on and on.

The qualifying requirements after end 2020 are not absolutely clear, but a much higher income level seems likely. In addition, there are no guarantees that the forthcoming (?) EU/UK deal will fund healthcare for Brits in Spain who gain Residencia after 2020.

Those of us Brits who already hold Residencia in Spain recognise that we are privileged. Brexit undercuts that privilege for those who aspire to follow us.

I don't think you should be comparing Spain to Britain regarding immigration. The new laws announced in the UK are for a very good reason, the country is greatly overpopulated (and before anyone reacts, that's not being racist). Spain is very different and has relied on the income from Brits for many year's, so why would they retaliate?

It makes sense to make sure you can afford to live in any country, and I believe private health insurance has been required for many year's, although I have no experience of it.

If you want to retire in Spain, go ahead and do it.....you only have one life.

Well you're welcome to your opinion, the facts in the UK speak for themselves (roads to capacity; schools over subscribed and the NHS busting at the seams! I don't want to speculate as to what will happen in the UK. I just hope it improves.

Don't think stopping migrants from EU is going to change these facts....

UK already has control over migration from elsewhere.

I don't want to get into a post Brexit debate, we had enough of that pre-Brexit, but who said the EU was the only cause of over population, and leaving would solve it all. EU migration is only part of why the UK is overpopulated, and leaving the EU with new migration laws can only help the situation.....it won't solve it completely. There are many other reasons for leaving the EU which I don't want to debate. We are leaving and that's that, let's all unite into getting the UK back on track!

We have left the EU, not Europe. Anyone still thinking of retiring to Spain should do so, don't let the doom merchants spoil it for you.
