hommerj .........I suspect Ryanair are a welcome sight for those potentially stranded in Spain because of the other airline shutdowns.......if you don't like Ryanair then don't fly with them but at least acknowledge that for some they may be a lifeline.

Proud oatI.

are you serious or dont you grasp the seriousness of this. you are happy for ryanair to fly in 120 people plus 6/8 crew in to alicante  carrying potentially a serious virus with the potential to kill , then your quite happy to fly back the same amount of people in to the uk putting unnecessary strain on health services both in spain and uk. you need to grasp the situation and realise this is a potentially a killer but as long as you are all right it dont matter.i could go on.

I didn’t say anything about the people choosing to fly into Alicante, like you I think it’s madness.......my post was specifically about those who may be stranded and at least with Ryanair still flying they had some chance of getting out of Spain/back home and what a relief that must be for them.

I can't police those who opt to fly when the whole world advises against it but I’ve compassion for those potentially stranded......

Wyni.........

My wife is arriving from the UK on Ryanair this afternoon to her permanent home here in Spain.

The authorities in Spain have decreed that the quarantine/lockdown (whatever you want to call it) applies from 8am tomorrow morning.

Why give Ryanair a hard time? They are being allowed to land in Spain at least until tomorrow.

Yes, it is serious, but they are abiding by the laws imposed. Give it a rest!

Yes well said Gem. Let’s face it Ryanair keep this part of Spain going with cheap flights through the winter to Covera and Alicante even from places like Bournemouth. You always get someone knocking them but their flights are always full and nearly always arrive on time if not earlier. Their crew are smart, friendly and helpful. So stop knocking success. Of course they make money but isn’t that what businesses are supposed to do?

Who is to say that the people flying to or from Spain and UK are any more likely to be infected? The only answer is to strictly observe the quarantine and personal health advice, which should stop the transfer of the virus. I can understand the difficulty of making sure any traveller from the high-risk areas like Italy is healthy, but what about the bad areas within Spain? Hundreds have been travelling around, maybe to escape the worst areas - evidenced by the high number of motorhomes that have appeared here - but I do not see that the army will put road-blocks on all the roads to prevent travel between centres. Not everybody flies, and I would feel at less risk in a well air-filtered jet for 3 hours than a journey by bus, coach or train.

At least it is easy to do a temperature check at airport security than at motorway toll-booths, service stations, entry to to supermarkets...the list goes on.

If everyone did as they should this will be over a lot sooner.

She came from the UK, which currently has less cases of the virus than Spain, so really don't understand your point. She decided to return home, as unsure as to when next she would have been able to get here!

Her flight had only 27 people on it, so unlikely for Ryanair profit in this instance - I assume the majority on that flight in the same position as us, i.e. Spanish residents, as little point in coming to Spain for a holiday just now because of the upcoming restrictions, effective tomorrow morning.

As previous posters have mentioned, the return flight will also give Brits here on holiday the chance to return to their homes and families. As long as they follow a quarantine process (self imposed) when they return, then surely not an issue.

The UK seem at odds with the majority of the rest of the world - neither you or I know what is the correct path at this time, but whining about Ryanair being irresponsible, is neither here nor there in the whole scheme of things.

It may well be Boris that you need to have a pop at in the future, as opposed to Ryanair! :)

It will be a relief for some to hear that Ryanair aka MO'L is in talks with the Irish government and Spanish authorities about flying people back home from Spain.....I’d say the potential risks of this action hugely outweighs the profit that some on here bang on about being Ryanair’s priority.

Good on Ryanair....as for those who damn them, just remember this when you're next looking for a cheap flight....leave those seats to the supports...
