The course will be anything from 360 euro to  450 euro depends upon the school.  Then 35 euro for each driving lesson.

Thank you, Andy, for all your help.

Hi,

Sorry I wasn't clear.

It doesn't matter, Catzoo.  If you do an update to your original response everyone posting on this topic will get notified anyway.

Hubby says that our Gestor has already tried the route of proving we were registered as residents as far back as Aug 2020 and submitted for TIEs in Sept 2020.   But the Traffic Dept are being 'Jobs Worthies' and not adhering to their own governments guildelines on this matter.

In the meantime, we're going to play the odds.  I will register for the driving test and Chris will wait to see if the UK do get an agreement beforehand.  If so, I can cancel the test.

We had much the same ‘jobs worth’ in Murcia.  I even downloaded info from the DVLA regarding our U.K. driving licence but he simply suggested that I might have fabricated it all.

We first registered for Recidencia back in February 2020 but only got the appointment for fingerprinting in March 2021 due mainly to the Covid pandemic.

Sadly there are ‘jobs worth’ folk throughout the world so I to am sitting the exam.

Lets hope all those having to sit pass with flying colours!

Good luck (although I don't think you'll need it!)  Annie.

Hi Annette,

How easy is it ?   I suppose that depends on how much regular driving you do and how much swatting up on spanish traffic laws and driving rules.  Our swatting starts now!

I googled How to pass your spanish driving test in Mercia -

There seems to be a number of on-line and physical lesson instructors who will guide you through the process.  One we read said you can take your test in english but must stipulate this on your application forms.  It costs a little more.

The process is in 3 parts:

1)  Eye sight test - done at a local centre.  We used San Javier.  Read a chart and answered questions about health.  This was for the exchange from UK to Spanish licence.  But like many despite being resident here since June 2020 and getting all our paperwork in on time.   The Spanish Traffic Dept,. has refused the app. because our TIEs didn't arrive until January 2021!  So we're also going to have to take the test.

2) Theoretical:   You're asked about 30 questions on road usage/laws.  You can have upto 3 errors before a fail.

3) Practical:   On-road driving test.  Just like in UK.

So wishing us all good luck :)) Annie

When I follow learners seating with their instructors on the road, I find most drive dangerously slow on major roads, turn right or left without indicating...I even saw an instructor on his mobile! So apart from the fact that it is another way for the government to make some money, the test should not be that complicated and instructors should certainly not fail anyone with a British driving licence.

I lived in many foreign countries where the only requirement was to get a local driving licence as the British driving licence is highly recognised. But Spain has higher standards hasn't it? Laughable is the word...

Me and hubby both have car and motorbike licences. He has HGV and most of the other boxes ticked which he needs for work. Can’t face all those tests !

I could not agree more, the French are going the same.  I still have my old UAE driving licence which was given me upon presenting my UK licence.

Ouch, see your dilemma.

Is there any temporary compromise poss?   e.g. you do the car test and hubby does the HGV.  That will keep you both on the road and enable hubby to keep working?

Nice ideas. But I would think you need a basic car licence to be able to take HGV test.
And we are both on with matriculating our Harleys which is costing a fortune. Be most upset if we can’t ride them!
