Hi, if your wife is Irish, she gets free movement, but you will be stuck with the 90 day rule if you do not have a EU passport.

To get a Irish passport on the back of your partner, you have to live in Ireland for 2 years , check all out carefully, some people have been caught out over this.

I don't think that the partner is trying to get an Irish passport, they are getting residency in Spain, nothing to do with the passport. They are moving to Spain therefore will apply for residency there using the Irish passport and 'piggy-backing' off of that

Check it out, but I think its 180 days, then becomes liable for tax.

I have a Irish passport and told I can only stay for 90 days because Ireland is not part of the Schengen  country's in Europe and have to apply for temporary residency to be able to stay for 6 months .

Yep, that's right but if you if you get residency your non-EU partner can piggy back off of you

Hi, did not know this, only that there is no way around getting a Irish passport than living in Ireland for 2 years.

My neighbours have tried everything, even with Mr having a Irish passport, it makes no difference to his wife, she cannot get one without the 2 year Irish rule.

Also applying for Spanish residency has to be done with your countries Spanish embassy, before coming to Spain, same as Brits have to do now. ( worth confirming )

Who is trying to get an Irish passport?? I know that I can get residency through my partner who has an Irish passport (mine is British), we both need to apply when we get to Spain, not necessary to do it in UK.

I think this post has now been hijacked by a completely different subject now perhaps the Irish Passport holders start a new thread as there is nothing more frustrating to the original posters as this new direction does not reflect the questions being asked
