Hi again all.

I know this has been discussed time and time again, but we have just watched a documentary re healthcare for expats. It was stated that if the UK leave the EU with a no deal, then all expats will have to pay for private healthcare over the age of 65.

Plus before allowed entry for permanent residency, you have to have 2,700 euros in the bank per month, plus 250 for each person in the household? Has anyone heard of this?

Hoping to hear from you.

Thankyou for replying picardie2, and yes I know these questions have been asked on numerous times. I did check on Jim`s guide but that was posted in March 2019.

I am asking has there been any changes since the post as the UK left the EU in December 2019, and on the BBC video we watched, the information was different to Jim`s guide.

Thanking you for any info forwarded.

Linda, we left the EU with a deal so what youare querying is old news. Upto Dec 2020 we are in a transition period as still in Eu but out on Jan 2021. After that date yes the income requirements increase to 4x the requirement needed now ie.approx 32,000€yr for a couple. If you get residency by December it stays as approx 7000€yr. Healthcare has been guarranteed for S1 holders after January but if under pension age you,lk need private healthcare. Its all in Jim,s Guides and I think you need to update yourself before its too late to act on it.

You mention "permanent residency" so unsure if you are already a resident but not 5years permanent or not or a non resident, but if a resident already you have to apply for TIE,s after Jan 2021 as a non EU citizen and unsure what income required for that but think its the same income as needed for original residency. The higher income requirements apply to new applications for residency after Jan 2021.

Regards

Pauline.

Thank you Pauline for the info. I didn`t realise we had left with a deal as I thought that's what the next 12 months  negotiations was for.

So the outcome is. If a retired couple want to settle in Spain, their combined pensions need to be 32.000 euros per month? And S1 holders are guaranteed healthcare. Sorry to be a pain but, what is a S1? And where did your wealth of knowledge come from?

Many thanks for your help with this.

Linda, the only things being negotiated now are trade deals, but we left with a deal on the major clauses. Yes 32,000€ after January for residency (upto now) will be required so get it before January. S1 is the free healthcare that pensioners or some people with exportable benefits receive from Uk. If your pre pension and healthy,  private healthcare is required. It seems you havent kept abreast of the Brexit situation as most people who would be affected by it but its all on the internet and in the news. Jims Guides have been updated as far as I know and theres a wealth of info on this forum. Btw dont forget the helpful button which acknowledges the time people have spent researching and sharing information. Its just being respectful if its been helpful.

Regards

Pauline.
