Interesting figure regarding Malta being ahead of the UK with vaccinations per 100 population how does Malta achieve 107 per 100 head population ?

Possible the total number of vaccinations, taking into consideration that most people will be given two each?

Just because there is a rule that says you must wear a mask at all times when out doesn't make it either right or logical? We did it in Spain for 9 weeks last year because it was the law, not because it made sense. We went to the first live rugby (limited, socially distanced numbers) had to have ...

...a negative test and show proof of it (we have both had 2 vaccinations) sat in the fresh air but still had to wear face masks which I thought was excessive, but yet again it was the requirement - don't like it don't apply for a ticket - likewise, if you don't want to wear a mask at all times don't visit Spain in the current environment :o)

Not sure why you are replying to me, when I'm the one who lives permanently in Spain, has worn my mask whenever I leave my house, for the past 15 or so months and wonders why the UK never insisted that its citizens do the same. It may seem pointless to some but it's the rule that most of us here in Spain, follow!

That might be your opinion, but I know businesses that

will be more than happy to see more people again, especially those who have had no support during this pandemic, so if you are still concerned for your health and wellbeing, please take your own necessary precautions and let the rest of us get on with our lives. ...

...

You may not be up to date on local Murcian news but the town of Caravaca de la Cruz has had to re-close all it's restaurants again today until further notice because some of the local people did not follow the government advice and there have consequently been various new outbreaks of Covid in the town. Those bars and restaurant businesses were probably very eager to see more people but the people who were careless, have now spoilt things for everyone in the town. We are all still living on the brink and those people who "just want to get on with their lives", need to consider those around them as well as themselves!

Because of exactly what you just wrote? Initially you said: "In Spain we put on a mask every time we leave the house and take it off when we get home again" I replied: "Just because there is a rule that says you must wear a mask at all times when out doesn't make it either right or logical?"

Your view is: "I'm the one who lives permanently in Spain, has worn my mask whenever I leave my house, for the past 15 or so months and wonders why the UK never insisted that its citizens do the same?" My reaction is: " Do whatever makes you feel happy or obliged to do by law! I wore a mask every day for 9 weeks last year when out on the street, with nobody anywhere near me. Was it the law? Yes - Does it make sense? Not really. If you are paranoid about safety, stay inside and never meet up with anyone and you should stay safe. You seem to think the mask at all times is sensible, but I don't :o)

Just 2 different opinions? What would the World be like if we all agreed about everything? :o)

Brink of what, a virus that doesn't kill 99.7% of the people who catch it, a lot of these decisions are political and nothing else, when the truth comes out it will prove lockdowns will have caused just as much harm than good, we live in a free society, everyone needs to be very careful of giving any government control of your life, they tend to like the control and don't often want to give it back easily.

Well said Steve! Some of the panicked comments on this site about Covid are so over the top it is bizarre! Almost all of the 'vulnerable' people, most of whom would NOT have died anyway, have been vaccinated and so any increase of infections in younger people affects very few and increases 'herd immunity' in the yet to be vaccinated group. Plus points all round would say. In the UK, it is mostly political with the primary reason for lockdown being not to overwhelm the NHS - that seems to have been totally forgotten in recent times. Perhaps Boris is keeping Spain and France amber to force people to holiday in the UK and boost the UK economy? It doesn't really make sense otherwise as the infection and death graphs drop dramatically
