Hi Peter

How can you say visitors will not be wearing masks or distancing.  We Brits are wearing masks and self distancing, don’t believe the papers.  Also people over the age of 35 are now receiving their fist vaccinations and everyone over 45 are now receiving their 2nd vaccine.  My hus...

...band and I are over 50 and have had both our injections and we will definitely be wearing our masks when we come to Spain in 2 weeks time

Like most government's and local papers they will always be scaremongering / escape goating about how other countries are not as good as them. The UK is so far advanced with vaccination's compared to the EU but this doesn't make the EU news only imaginary or greatly exaggerated claims on the Astra jab as to why they are months behind. Regarding mask wearing and distancing I was in Spain for 6 months returning at the end of January this year and to be honest noticed no difference with Brits in Spain or in the UK both countries have their own idiots rioting etc.

I think that the difference is that mask-wearing is obligatory in Spain and seems optional in the UK. We only have to watch the UK daily news on any channel to see that this is the case. And Spain is now doing mass vaccinations in most towns and is catching up with vaccinating the population.

It's official, as from Monday 24th May, the Spanish gates are open welcoming all British Passport holders on non essential visits and without the need for a negative test result. Japanese people, you can come too. "Ready, steady ..........." !! 😎

For the doubting Thomas' out there:

Though no PCR for arrivals but to go back to uk you must quarantine and buy 2 pcr tests to use in uk hopefully hope people will take  notice of govt advice I,e do not go until more is known of the relevant stages of the pandemic

Very true, and those reminders are becoming more frequent on UK news channels  especially since Spain has opened the doors to UK holiday makers.  Government threatening spot checks at homes to make sure self quarantine rules being observed...... yeah right 🤣!  Can you imagine the local Police response to demands to start house visits?  Wouldn't be surprised if its all tongue in cheek Government response to keep the opposition happy?

I fully agree that the sensible option will be to stay put until things are more clear;   I'm all set to sell up here and move over, though I  shan't until the Spanish vaccination rate increases.  On the other hand, I also understand the overwhelming need to get away.

For those of us living here I don't see this as a cause for celebrating - visitors unused to proper distancing and mask-wearing..

Can assure you when myself and my partner came twice last year, when we were permitted, we masked up and distanced ourselves only leaving our home for shopping, so please don’t tar us all with the same brush. We are just as frustrated over here when they don’t follow rules. :)

I agree not sure how they can police everyone. We had 2 trips last year to our house and self quarantined on both occasions, working from home so not an issue. Not 1 phone call, visit or paperwork checked at border control after taking the time to fill it all in.

Mask wearing has not been optional in the UK! Not sure where you are getting your information from ?

Being in the UK now I will respond with personal experience we cannot go into a shop without wearing a mask or showing an exemption from what I have witnessed on a phone to the shop staff. Also when we go into a bar we have to check into the NHS track and trace app, if we go into a bar we have to wear a mask anytime when not sat at a table, its a pleasant change to have waiter service pity it will end.

The only difference is we don't need to wear a mask to walk our dogs in a field which you have to admit is over the top, and yes I've seen both on Camposol and Manchester people wearing the masks underneath their noses without being questioned in either place.

I am not saying either country is better than the other handling this pandemic both having made mistakes and positive moves to control it.

Well, you just answered Liz's question. In the UK, you have to wear a mask to go into a shop or a restaurant but not when you are just out and about. In Spain we put on a mask every time we leave the house and take it off when we get home again. Thousands of people in Spain are walking around the streets with a mask on - in the UK they are not. Even the newsreaders and politicians on Spanish TV wear masks whilst they are talking to the camera. It's not a competition, I was merely pointing out the differences in the rules in either country!
