Yes, from Monday Spain allowed visitors in from the UK whether they had proof or not of vaccination.

They need the money

However, the UK is the worlds leading light for vaccinations and we still adhere to social distancing and wearing masks so it should not be anywhere as bad are some are trying to make out

I also have to point out that getting a flight to Corvera is an absolute nightmare as the airport is not fully open and as of today, Easyjet has very few, if any flights there from from Gatwick even for the month of July

Of course Alicante is better placed but even so, I do not think you will see the massive sudden influx that the Spanish authorities are hoping for

From my source in the USA, they are ahead of us in the vaccination 'race' and have much more freedom, although that varies depending on which state you're in. The media in the UK only tells us what they want us to hear.

I've waited for 14 months to get back to Spain but I'm still deferring it until Johnson lifts it from amber together with France. Much of all the decisions don't make sense and appear to be political rather than based on the science as is claimed by Johnson when he chooses!

Mask wearing has not been optional in the UK! Not sure where you are getting your information from ?

When just walking down the street it is.

It is only mandatory to wear a mask when indoors. In the outdoors or when walking down the street it is optional.

We wear our makes always outside and even in the gym but that is our choice

I think that you'll find that the world's leading light in vaccinations is Israel. The UK comes some way after that, alongside Mongolia and followed closely by Canada.

https://ourworldindata.org/covid-vaccinations

In the continent of Europe, the UK comes after San Marina and Malta and Spain is catching up quickly now that there are mass vaccinations going on every day.

https://www.statista.com/statistics/1196071/covid-19-vaccination-rate-in-europe-by-country/

Of course the UK is still a world leader when it comes to deaths from Covid but doesn't boast about that figure on a daily basis, like they do about the number of vaccinations! At the end of the day, when everyone has been vaccinated, the number of deaths will still be the same.

Interesting figure regarding Malta being ahead of the UK with vaccinations per 100 population how does Malta achieve 107 per 100 head population ?

Well, you just answered Liz's question. In the UK, you have to wear a mask to go into a shop or a restaurant but not when you are just out and about. In Spain we put on a mask every time we leave the house and take it off when we get home again. Thousands of people in Spain are walking around the...

... streets with a mask on - in the UK they are not. Even the newsreaders and politicians on Spanish TV wear masks whilst they are talking to the camera. It's not a competition, I was merely pointing out the differences in the rules in either country!

Just because there is a rule that says you must wear a mask at all times when out doesn't make it either right or logical? We did it in Spain for 9 weeks last year because it was the law, not because it made sense. We went to the first live rugby (limited, socially distanced numbers) had to have a negative test and show proof of it (we have both had 2 vaccinations) sat in the fresh air but still had to wear face masks which I thought was excessive, but yet again it was the requirement - don't like it don't apply for a ticket - likewise, if you don't want to wear a mask at all times don't visit Spain in the current environment :o)

For those of us living here I don't see this as a cause for celebrating - visitors unused to proper distancing and mask-wearing..

That might be your opinion, but I know businesses that

will be more than happy to see more people again, especially those who have had no support during this pandemic, so if you are still concerned for your health and wellbeing, please take your own necessary precautions and let the rest of us get on with our lives.

Really? In South Carolina the vaccination rate is 32% yet there was not a single spectator at the US PGA Golf Championship wearing a mask!! Maybe it's because The US is where Superman came from - immune to everything except Kryptonite :o)

You didn't read my post properly, so I don't get the point you're making! Some states are way ahead and others are lagging behind the UK....on average they are higher so I'm told by someone living there. Wearing masks has been dropped completely in a lot of states, I'm not sure if all have. Each state has it's own governor and they make their own rules. The benefits of mask wearing is still being debated worldwide, just best to follow the law of the land and get on with it. I find the wearing of masks and using hand gel have now become a habit, so neither bother me.

Hopefully soon, we'll all get back to talking about the weather again!
