I live on D and would not suggest to anyone to walk to A to then get a bus. Far to far to walk especially in the heat. Without doubt a car is a requirement if you intend to live on D

Just to tell you our experience.....we lived for thirteen years in a village in the hills, lovely scenery, peaceful (bar goats, chainsaws and the inevitable untrained dogs!) but ultimately got sick to death of having to get in the car every time we needed anything from a shop.
We were lucky in that it only took a year to sell our house and move nearer civilisation, but have friends who have houses still on the market unsold after ten years, so the decision you make on where to live is not easily reversible.
We were only 9 kms from a health centre, farmácia and some bars, but friends with children found the dawn starts to put kids on a school bus onerous, and because of the need to get bussed home the kids could not have any socialising in town.

Hi, it Depends where you are on sector D but most people are very helpful regards lifts etc, I ferried a couple for a week or so, I just let them know where I was off to and asked if they wanted a lift.
However for 6 weeks if you wished to get to know the area around Mazarron/ Murcia I would suggest car hire....

I personally used Europcar, they are straightforward with no catches and unlimited mileage, pick up the car with a full tank and return full so you don't get stitched up for fuel.
I live on sector D and happy to give you more info if you want it.

we used Europe car twice and were very good, we bought insurance on the internet to cover extras insurance. it was only 40euros for the year. also the longer you hire the car for the cheaper it gets, it will also save you paying out for taxi transfers from and back to the air port. Download google maps onto your mobile phone, it will use data allowance but will be cheaper than paying the rental companies hire charges for a sat nav. hope you enjoy your stay, we came over last December and love it here.
