It's about living ...and in my books that means enjoying yourself ....who on earth wants just to survive.

That may be your book but your response is not what the original post is asking. They want monthly costs. Not a cost for a social life.

Keep with the facts needed

If you think you can live on a hand full of rice and a crust of bread in Spain then get on with it ..all I can say to you is if you intend moving to Spain with only a UK state pension in your pocket is don't do it. The wages for a day's work in Mazarron on a building site for a tradesman is only around 40 to 50 euro's per day if you fancy topping up your pension.  ...you might think my posts are negative but what you a forgetting is that I have been on Camposol for 11 years ...and I stopped dreaming 11 years back if you want to enjoy yourself in Spain just the same as it is in the UK you will need money to do so... in the past 11 years I have seen many come and many go ...and the number 1 reason for going back is the lack of spending money they all arrive bushy tailed but the majority only last around 6 months...personally if you haven't got the money for a good social life especially in Spain then forget about it ..you keep going on about €1,500 per month this equates to £1,300 at today's exchange rate personally I don't think this is enough to have a good time or for 2 people to live on ...as I said the quoted amount is OK to get by with absolutely no extras...and by the way the original poster sent me a private post asking me for the approximate running costs of my Neptuno deluxe with a pool... As that was the type of property they are after ...I sent them the yearly council tax and the standing charge's for rubbish collection / electricity meter / water meter along with cost per kW & cost per cubic meter of water...that was 3 weeks back.

All jokes aside...the only things that are cheeper in Spain are council tax/ fags / and none branded booze ...everything else is more expensive or the same...if you shop in the likes of Asda or Morrison's back in the UK then you are in for a big shock.

Try Consum on Camposol, or if you've a car Mercadona in Puerto de Mazarron. If you stick to non English brands, the food is cheaper and tastes just as good. Also get fruit and veg from a market, Thursday morning in Camposol or Saturday morning in Mazarron

I beg to differ on the rates of pay that have been suggested

The official government figures for 2018 are £7.83 p.h. x 40 = £313.20 pw x52 = £16286.40 per year.before tax and insurance

obviously a skilled person such as a plumber would earn more.

However as Sharon said they require a typical monthly expenditure for living hear, and I consider a statement that they would need 1500 Euro a month a little extreme and could be off putting for a prospective buyer.

Example of 2 bed apartment in La Ribera.

Electricity 25 per month

Water 22 per month

Internet and telephone 34 per month

Butano (bottle gas) for hot water and cooking  full size cooker oven hob and grill  8.50 per month.

Community fee 30 per month

If you were renting there are apartments for about 300 per month plus bills.

Obviously food and household items would vary to taste also things like internet this is free in the local library (not one on Camposol)

All I can say is I have lived here for many years and have no regrets about leaving the UK in fact I went back to stay with a friend for a few months and found things very expensive.

I also had to visit my doctor (not private) and had an appointment the next day which I understand is hardly possible in the UK.

Sharon I suggest you go for it if only to try renting for 6 months

Kind regards

Ed

Hi , Im new to all this .....

wow really finding it daunting so conflicted. My family intend to give it another go in Spain we returned due to an illness of a family member who passed away, really affected us and set us back as you can image.

We are now feeling better as a family and wish to give it another go if its possible, from reading different advice on here Im really shocked, confused and bit worried about now.

our plan is - we have a property to rent out in the UK and would like to rent in Spain, my partner works all over the world and is generally away for 6 weeks home for 3. We have a 5 yr old boy and 2 dogs. Mainly its the awful weather, just awful winters I would like a better life for my son outdoors. not sure about schooling ?? home schooling initially then see whats best once we are out there and see whats available. Any ideas thoughts please??

Any thoughts?

What i live on 500 euro a month, but then i am not on the piss every night i run a car and a bike. electric 52 a month, water, 41 every two months, internet 33 a month, ,40 per week car insurance 250 per year same as the bike. house insurance 158 per year, on residence tax 156 per year.

I take it this is without medical insurance?

if you look at the figures they only total 245 so 255 still unaccountable so perhaps that's food and insurance

Yes maybe.

I’d suggest the totals will be a combination of what this user has posted and the figures I posted at the beginning of this thread.

I would assume that medical insurance is covered by the state pension if of retirement age?

Also many people post details of what they need to do? one post actually said the his wife said give up the beer???

Each person has there own quality of life to follow and that dose not mean, playing pool or golf once or twice a week going for a drink every night to socialise ( my ex wife thought that and became an alcoholic and died at 52)  walks picnics free air shows are all part of life.

As a previous person stated 500 Euro is possible to live on and enjoy the benefits of living in the sun it   is a great life.

Back to keyboard warriors lol

Enjoy

Why would anyone want to live in  poverty in Spain on €500 a month...what on earth are you running away from that possess you to attempt such a thing...why take your poverty to Spain... as I can assure you the Spanish government don't want you ..as they have enough home grown scroungers of their own to feed....this thread is getting rather stupid now .
