Most of the previous post is inaccurate or incomplete, for example the 183 days is within a calendar year, so theoretically you could leave the UK on your way to Spain (which is when the clock starts ticking) on the 2nd July, sign on the register of foreigners before 90 days, and return to the UK...

... by the 2nd July the following year (1st if a leap year) and not become tax resident. Time here is not the only factor as HMRC will regard you as UK tax-resident if your main residence and source of income is in the UK, with the Spanish taxman taking the same stance from the other angle, so if your family lives in Spain and your main residence is here they will gave a case for wanting tax on your worldwide earnings.

the poster was referring to stayng over in spain, not the uk, read the damn post ,

as  for frequent flyer , your card is already marked , you keep stating 1500 which is irrelevent to what the op ws asking,

but still after 8mnths you  cant  itemise it, your other post stated the costs of downsizing, again irrelevent as op was talking

about spain not the uk

i think this forum has had enough of your out bursts, and as i,  like others , have asked for  your  removal

the time has come for admin to remove you

To be honest, from other threads I’ve participated in, I don’t read frequent flyers posts anymore as they’re always negative and unhelpful.

Still, the whole point of any forum is to hear the voices of others

Stevieb please answer this ..Do you agree with the advice Oink is giving on this thread...if all the  advice I am giving out is negative ...why don't you and ggla1give the poster some positive advice on becoming a Spanish resident .....when you are under UK retirement age...all the original poster has to do is go on the the UK government site and it  gives them all the advice they require... Simple advice like you need to register at a local town hall or police station ..if you spend more than 30  days in Spain /the need for private health care and so on...I have owned a villa on Camposol for 11 year's and can tell you that the majority that  go back home do so due to lack of money / poor health ...the sunshine is not a cure for being skint...what ever country you live in.

Extract from cab spain..

Purchasing public health insurance

If you are not covered for state-run healthcare through any other means, the Spanish regional health authorities offer a special pay-in scheme (convenio especial). This is a public health insurance scheme available nation-wide where you pay a monthly fee to access state-run healthcare. The scheme is managed by each autonomous region. Before application, you must have been a resident for at least one year. Please note that some regions such as Murcia, Balearic Isles and Madrid do not stipulate registered residency but are using the padron as proof of the one year residency. Valencia forms mention residencia but appear to also be using the padron.

Policy holders pay on an individual basis for access to public healthcare, regardless of pre-existing conditions, anywhere in Spain. Children do not have to join the Convenio Especial as they are protected under Spanish law and can access state healthcare for free.

The basic monthly fee is 60€ for the under 65s and 157€ for those aged 65 and above. However, prescriptions and prosthesis are not subsidised so you would pay 100% of prescription costs. This form of cover doesn’t give holders the right to an EHIC at this time, so if you wish to travel, you will need to take out private travel insurance. The scheme is now available in:

There are groups of people who are entitled to free healthcare in special circumstances. The information can be found on the link below.  The groups included can be residents or nonresidents without health cover of any type.

The situation for immigrants and those known as ‘sin papeles’ without papers therefore having no right to reside in Spain has changed.  CAB Spain will be providing full information shortly.

*Please note: In a lot of cases relating to treatment provided for children. if you are not told that you need to pay at the hospital, you could still receive notification in Spanish of the cost of the treatment. Please check that this is not a bill but a notification.

Visiting in Spain for up to three months does not have any residency requirements. Before the ninety days are up, those who wish to reside should apply for residency status. The exception to the 3 months rule is for jobseekers actively seeking work who can stay for six months. In some EU countries, you are also required to report your presence within a reasonable time after arrival allowing the EU country to be aware of population movement in their territory.

There are no regulations in place either in the EU Directives or the Spanish Royal Decrees about long term holidaymakers. CAB Spain suggest that you ask at the ‘Policia Nacional? if they wish to know that you will be staying for an extended period.

After the 90 days period, if you do not apply for residency you can be sanctioned but must be appropriate to the violation and non/discriminatory. You cannot be expelled for violating this rule.
