Whilst I do not advocate dodging your fiscal responsibilities living here in Spain ( I am fiscally resident), and what a good feeling it is to have no worries regarding future life here. I can agree with Mervyn01 in his opinion of some of the prolific posters on this forum. -  O.K if you totally agree with them; and their very often wrong thinking, BUT beware if you dare express any other point of view !  I have been called a lot of nasty names by them for simply telling it as it is, when they simply have not experienced what I have. But, that's life ! - I've been called far worse in my lifetime and learned to ignore it. As for blocking another persons opinion, just because you don't agree with their point of view is not a forum.

We purchased on camposol in 2010,ibi was set up with bank and all was fine till 2015,for some reason it was no longer coming out of are account.last year we had an an embargo on are bank account and over time the tax took nearly €1400 for unpaid ibi and fines, don't be a mug

make sure it is paid.

Yes it was are fault for not checking, but at the same time we should of been told the ibi direct debit had been cancelled by who ever, certainly not us.

The thing is last year we set up again with a are solicitors a direct debit again, last years ibi was not taken out of are account again ,so we paid it are selves at the bank. When asking are solicitor why why this has happened again, they checked at mazarron town hall to be told they had not set it up,what a joke, yet we have all the forms stamped at the bank saying the dd is there.

So will see what happens with the next payment.

I certainly don't agree with not paying your bills, and you deserve to be punished when the authorities catch up with you. The tax authorities in Spain are slowly getting round to filling the loopholes that have existed for year's because they realise just how much money they have lost.

I do however agree that it's financially stupid to pay a Solicitor or financial advisor to pay your non resident taxes on your behalf, when they can very simply be done by yourself.

If you do'nt pay IBI for 5 years, and they catch you,you will be forced to hand over your keys. Bye, bye house.

The IBI is the impuesto sobre Bienes imuebles,to give it it's correct name and is a property tax or council tax.

Hope that helps.

I phoned up Sabadell and they said it wasn’t a direct debit even though I had direct debit on the  statement from ibi in my account and I had paid it for 4 years. So they were no help so what I will do is go to the office behind the town hall in Mazarron get them to give me what I owe go b...

...ack to the bank and once again ask for direct debit.  I know I will have to pay a bit extra as I am now one year behind it’s just a pallava that I have to go to town hall again and repeat process.  Sabadell must have set it up wrong or done something wrong a year ago anyway they can wait till April when I come over.  Hate lining up in the bank for ages but I like to do things right.  Thanks for your help everyone.

I would suggest changing banks. Transferwise online transfer money bank now do payments by direct debit.  You no longer have to have a Spanish account to pay Bill's.  Good luck, it's always difficult to deal with things from a distance

Hola everyone

My husband and I will be hopefully starting our Spanish journey (looking for property in September) what obstacles or nuggets of information do you wish you had known before you came (we are complete novices) tia
