Jolly good idea. You can enjoy the bars and restaurants but your friends will remember the clean up operations in years to come far more than sitting on a beach.

Unfortunately it’s a no go area, sorry to say folk walking in wellies and so much mud around. We’re here at moment and can’t get near beach front. Shame as we were hoping to buy here. I really feel for the people who live there. The cost doesn’t bear thinking about.

Just to keep folks up to date. The old town is improving everyday and although the beach at that end is decimated we sat and had breakfast at La Encarnacion and there we lots of people doing the same. We then moved to the other end Los Narejos beach and found a part of the beach ( with sand) and sun beds by La Sirena beach bar so all good. Don’t put off coming .

Just back from few days checking out whether we still wanted to buy holiday home in LA area and totally agree with Keithyd19.
After watching clips of area prior to going out we were amazed at how much work has been done. Huge well done to all concerned.
Stayed in Los Narejos area and although there are couple of areas of beach cordoned off, these are more due to structural damage rather than beach issues.
We havnt been put off and only slight concern now is how quiet area becomes during winter months. Had conflicting comments when asking around in bars/restuarants. Plan to pop over later in year to check out for ourselves.

The population drops to around 15,000 in winter, so parking is easier, many of the smaller restaurants shut at least in January, but the open ones, figure out who the locals are and we enjoy it hugely. Good time to keep practicing Spanish, walking and riding.
This winter there will be a lot of repair and restoration of course.
Three Kings and Semana Santa comes around quickly, that is a great time, with a lot of people back in town for that, then the street trees burst into bud and off we go again.

My advice would be ‘try before you buy’ I’m sure you can get a Long let very cheaply ‘off season ‘ This winter might not be the best example as many of the businesses may not be up and running til next year.
