How exactly is this illegal ?

There are bound to be some users who only take one trip a year, others who take one a month, so who sorts out who contributes what? Who pays for the insurance, road tax, fuel and servicing?

If the same vehicle(s) keep turning up at the airport it would not be long before the licensed taxi drivers take note and turn up to have a conversation…

It wouldn't be just the licenced taxi drivers who would be concerned. At Alicante Airport the authorities have in the past used the ANPR cameras to identify people who are doing what they deem to be illegal pick ups. Fines have been issued and vehicles have been confiscated.

No doubt if there was a formal club membership and articles of memorandum!

However, for a group of friends who got together in bars and restaurants to enjoy  life, and shared transport to and from airports, beaches, etc.  .....  I think not :)

This old chestnut is a regular topic. What you suggest is totally illegal in Spain! No one is insured so why take the risk anyway? Airports always had Police on the look out for regular cars, nowadays they use CCTV.

Any lifts that are given for payment of any kind are considerd illegal and invalidate any insurance and incur large fines and car confiiscation

Absolutely agree..... that however was not what I was suggesting, nor how we ever operated in Ibiza.

I suspect it is probably illegal here in the UK, and at the very least, yes it would invalidate car insurance.

However I have given many a lift to family and friends here in the UK, and received many myself.

BONUS..... I have met some wonderful lifelong friends along the way!!   :)

We maybe we could do it on a free reciprocal basis ? I’d be up for it !

That is exactly what I am looking for Alan.... and I'm hoping that it will perhaps also lead to Donna and I meeting some wonderful new friends for our Fortuna adventures!  :)

I read many posts from Brits who have moved to Spain who say they are important to the Spanish economy.

Finding dubious ways to avoid using legal services is the very opposite of this ideal.

What next? Instead of going to local bars why not club together to buy Larios gin and Mercadona tonic and have all your mates round to drink it? Just as illegal, just as mean.

Hmmm, are you naturally a negative person Peter, or did I just catch you on a bad day?

I'm a positive, friendly sort of guy, so I'm hoping it was the latter!

I'm not sure why you think that socialising around a pool with drinks and a BBQ should be considered illegal or 'anti-Spanish' - personally I love a good party, and would never consider holding one in a bar (in the UK or Spain), when I have a perfectly good garden,  and nor would I consider myself to be robbing the local businesses by holding it!!

Similarly.... I would never consider charging my friends and family for the occasional airport run, or to collect their car from the local garage, etc.     Surely you wouldn't consider doing such a thing either?

Donna & I are looking forward to making many 'like-minded' new friends in and around Fortuna; it was one of the main reasons for buying a place in Spain.

Best wishes to you :)

Maybe in the UK it is not illegal but in Spain it is

PeterC is just being brutally honest.

Things are different in Spain.

Car confiscations & huge fines are common place for things like this.

Yes, and so it should be Eduardo, because anyone scooting around offering 'charged for' transport services needs to be adequately insured for everyone's benefit  :)

You're taking it way out of context, and far beyond anything that friends do for each other Alan!!!

The suggestion was not for a 'business plan' that needs any of the above, and most people that I currently know are not 'frequent flyers' and travel backwards and forwards once or twice a year :)

I'm simply looking for a few friends with similar interests, for social meets, drinks, pool/BBQ parties, whist drives etc. and as a group of friends it makes sense to help each other out with transportation every now and then!

BTW, we're bringing an MPV with us that will spend most of it's life with the seats folded into the floor, thus allowing collection of wood, and any large objects we need as we furnish our villa. If any of my friends needed help with shifting a fridge, or bed, etc. I wouldn't hesitate to assist them..... and before you ask... yes it would be a no charge 'gratis' assistance  :)
