Hi Ray.
I can highly recommend Centauro, book direct with them, yes it is a little shuttle bus ride away, but a yellow van awaits you directly outside and is only 5 mins down the road.
Premium option includes second driver free, includes insurance so no big €1200 block on credit card.
They will take money off you for fuel but will refund full monies if you take back full, always new cars and a relaxed attitude.
The big downside post Covid is the cost to hire now is very expensive.
Your other option is Firefly of which you can book with broker, again choose full full fir fuel.
They will block a chunk off your credit card though and monies for fuel, again monies for fuel will be refunded if taken back full.
The credit card block will be refunded if no damage, Firefly are located at airport just as you come out of arrivals across the road.
PS take a credit card in drivers name or you will have to pay full insurance which will double the hire cost.
You can take out your own annual insurance policy to cover you for several hires throughout the year.
MY ADVICE STAY AWAY FROM GOLDCAR.
If you need any further information let me know, just saves me writing a book beforehand on here
Hope that helps

Many thanks for taking the time to provide a very informative post. Just what I was after. I’ll look at both options you mention. Many thanks again Ray
La Manga car rental are very good, simple, reliable. We used to use centauro but they now only do a premium service which is VERY expensive but great, La manga is now our preferred. We buy excess insurance cover in uk to cover if you have some damage. You have to leave a deposit on your card with company but you claim any costs upon return, it’s about £50/year. We used this with centauro too, when they offered a more basic cover.
Other option worth looking at is Zest car rental in uk, a broker who use centauro amongst others they can work out cheaper and have better insurance as standard and free 2nd driver. We currently have a car from Drivalia through zest, so far so good, we’ll see how the car return goes….
most prices quoted are about €35/day these days (a third of that pre covid!) but if you wait they until nearer often come down to 20-25. Most offer free cancellation (handy if later you find a cheaper one) La Manga has no pay up front, pay on collection.

Hi
Bought a place in Murcia about 3 years ago and have used Centuro over 20 times on visit so would recommend them highly. You also build up points that you can use against future car hire via registration on their site.
Many thanks
Bill

Useful information. I tend to use
doyouspain.com but will also look at the other suggestions.
Cheers

doyouspain.com tend to be the cheapest broker, unless someone can tell me otherwise.
Recordcar.com at Alicante are ok and seem to work out cheaper these days than Centauro on a full insurance basis.
I’ve used them a few times but took out full insurance to test them out, not had issues, however I have seen customers being scrutinised along with a torch checking for damage on non full insurance, so be careful, also they check your fuel receipt, again as in be careful if you don’t have receipt or don’t fill up within 10km of airport they will charge you and extra €35 euros, Centauro don’t do that.
