Do not rely on what you are told! You can check whatever you need to know by visiting the Government website section - Living in Spain and the Spanish Government website.

The Websites specifically advise what is permitted and are updated when changes occur.

Hi for those who have been mentioning bills I can clarify a few things. Even though your not in Spain you will still encounter service charges. In terms of electricity this is monthly and the standing charge depends on your set consumption. This is usually set high but if your not using your property you can lower this. The set consumption dictates how much power you need in your place. So if you use only a few electrical appliances for example you could lower this. Simply email your supplier. I can also confirm that your solicitor should have set up these bills do they will have more information. Like the UK you can also access your bills electronically. Now for water. Most companies or communities in Spain will actually include your rubbish/bin collections with your water. These bills are paid quarterly. For the person who has had a bill that they were not expecting it may be due to the previous person. It’s also worth noting that if you have a water leak for example this would result in a larger bill. This is why it’s important for people to be allowed to travel to check out their properties. Good luck everyone. If you need any help with bills etc please just ask.

Thankyou for your advice but I’m not planning any travel outside the U.K. anytime soon! I’ve asked the question whether the post is correct as it probably isn’t!

Thank you for this info. I'm realising, quite quickly, that there are payments for everything. 😳 I've recently ordered a debit card from the bank and I'm being charged for that. We live & learn! Thanks & I'm sure we'll get used to how things work in time.

It's frustrating having bills to pay without even being there but like you I'm hoping by end of May, or June we will be able to fly there, maybe with proof of vacination enough for entry.

Gerry what about those who want/need to enter and don't want the vaccine?

My father passed away last year in Spain and myself and my children have inherited his home. If they go down the unlawful route of vaccine passports, that essentially leaves us with a property we can never use.

Surely a negative test should be enough?!!  It's frustrating to me as the more people accept this route, the more they'll go ahead with it, despite the European Council advising that it's against our human rights :(

Sorry for your loss. Perhaps the ideal solution would be if Spain accepted both routes, a negative test or a proof of vacination.

Reminded me I need to get a Spanish Will done,I've read somewhere it's really essential to get one done.

Ye, i realised the same when I was charged for a card and the monthly charges are higher than UK. But on the plus side...I'm looking forward to the climate, hoping to learn a bit of Spanish and integrate with the locals. Despite some things being more expensive I'm sure it will be worth it.

Thank you.  Yes I hope they go down the route of either, some people can't have the vaccine because of health issues so they'd need to make allowances for them too.

Yes I believe you need a Spanish will if you own a property there. I think there were allowances to have your will considered under English Law but you'll need to check that.

All the best,

Rachael.

Yes, you can instruct the Notary or your abogado that you want your Will to be executed under the laws of England and Wales, or Scotland (but not under the laws of the United Kingdom, as they are different for each country). Or you can use the wording "under the laws of your country of origin". It's important that the wording is right but your legal advisor should know the correct way to write it.
