I would just like to add that we too opened a wefferent online account , after being charged ridiculous money every month with Sabadel. NO charges whatsoever with the wefferent account  and no atm charges either . IF there is a slight niggle it is if you  are unable to complete an onlin...

...e transfer yourself and need help in the bank then a small charge is incurred for that .

Thank you so much for taking time to reply - really appreciate it - I am torn between Cajamar or Wise ??? Will check the pros and con ..

Open both ??

Just use the Wefferent account to hold a small amount of euro's in case you need some cash ??

It may also be prudent to have two different accounts with two different banks.

Just in case there are problems with one or the other.

Why just hold a small amount in the Wefferent account?

This is a well established bank and has been going much longer than wise, which is not an actual bank, but was established as an electronic transfer company.

Wise is a non-bank payment provider. This means your Wise account is an electronic money account. ... Your money is safeguarded and not covered by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS), or another protection scheme that you would get with a bank account.

I moved to Wise last year and had no problems and certainly no regrets, we both have Revolut & Monzo cards and although I think both now banks (I know monzo is) you can use them just to draw cash, if you are a couple that's €800 charge free withdrawals a month although all the Spanish banks now charge a withdrawal fee which varies, I've found Caixa cheapest at €1.95 per withdrawal,  I'm led to believe some foreign banks still free but you can only find them in the cities, whatever you do you'll find it hard to rack up €35 a month I was paying Sabadell

When you opened the account you are not given the "transfer" service as standard and 3 yrs ago when I opened the account we went in and we had to request the transfer service. From then you can do your own free online. I have mentioned this in several replies about the wefferrent account and also the fact that their software for online application to open account will not recognise a non resident NIE. So branch it has to be for non residents to open account. However its an excellent account and we have been fee free for 3 yrs now.

Cajamar do not charge for withdrawals nor do they have a restricted monthly amount of withdrawal but do have a daily amount of €500 per card. Sabadell charge €35 quarterly not monthly btw. Thankfully left them 3 yrs ago. Best move ever. If you are paying workmen cash I didn't think Wise was right for us with their atm restriction. I use Wise for our £ transfers into Cajamar though, excellent service.
