@GerryT

If you are having trouble translating your water bill download it and print it off.

Then download and install Google Lens on your smartphone ( if you have one )

Open Google Lens then hover your phone over the text you want to translate and it translates it for you as you look at it.

An amazing piece of technology.

Thanks. I had a look at translation but still can't see how my bill is 40 euros when I haven't even moved in yet.

Mains water is safe to drink but is usually tastes horrible.

Think I will stick to bottled then.

That's reasonable. Are the meters read regularly or often estimated.

I try translating the online bill from Spanish to English but not always easy. I bought a property at end of Feb, haven't moved from UK because of the restrictions but had an online bill a few days ago for 42 euros. Don't understand how as I haven't been there....

...

Unfortunately my friend when you buy over here the estate agent and a place in the sun for example don't tell you the itty gritty things that start as soon as you signed the dotted line for the said property purchase.By that I mean No matter if your at your property or not their are 3 charges 1 electric 2 water 3 council tax.All charge a certain amount weather you turn a tap turn on the kettle or not.I myself was charged 40 euro per every 6 weeks for electric and I wasn't their?water was less but not much less with zero use.As for council tax well it's the same paid yearly though.I was told by a estate agent recently that if you go to the electric company or water board and say your not in situ so to speak they charge a basic flat fee?around about 9 /10 euro for not being their.Its not like the UK here it's a rip off here if your not careful.Also make sure you get a fixed deal on your electric ie herbadrola? You need to go and do this in shop.

I knew there was a monthly charge for electric before even using any, that's fine, I didnt think it would be the same for water. However at least the Council Tax is nowhere near as bad as in UK,which probably makes up for other things.

Another interesting topic which has raised concerns for a lot of people who haven't been able to visit their property for months. I've been a customer of Iberdrola and Aqualia for a long, long time and never had cause to query anything before. As is usual with forums we get a lot of speculation and rumour spread about, unfortunately very little facts! I haven't been able to visit my villa since late 2019 and the utility companies have made a lot of money from me for doing nothing. I wouldn't mind paying a flat fee, the companies need to stay in business otherwise we'd all be in a mess. I've never heard about flat rates when not in residence....where does that come from, it would be most helpful to get a direct link to that.

The problem I, and many others have now is being able to contact and make changes to accounts, Banks and utilities, whilst being locked up in the UK. I feel they are taking advantage of the current climate.

I would like to hear from anyone who has had success in getting a response to emails sent to Aqualia, as they ignore mine. You can pm me if you like.

So having recently lived in Spain I can clarify a few things hopefully. Firstly all bills carry a hefty standing charge. This most definitely includes electricity and water. People wondering why water bills are high with low consumption is merely down to the other charges. Renting of equipment and the supplies of water to your property. Some water bills also include your fees for rubbish removal which is usually covered in our council tax in the UK. In terms of drinking the Spanish water forget it. It’s often high in chemicals and destroys your electrical appliances and pipes through high levels of limescale. I’d definitely opt for a water filter or just buy the water. It’s like 90c for 7 litres. Heavy but very cheap. We always just have a 1 litter bottle that we top up from the bigger one. Hope this helps.

Will definitely stick to bottled water then. I didn't think there was a standing charge for water, just for electricity but I may have been told wrong.
