Here’s a thought. Now that we have the Brexit ruling of 90 days only in Spain as a visitor/tourist, how is it possible to get a residentia. You have to be in Spain to get a residentia as you are required to attend meetings to get an NIE number, a Padron, an S1 medical certificate and the Residentia. I have just waited 5 weeks to get an appointment for my Padron which I did attend today and told all my paperwork is correct and I may receive it in a couple of weeks ( maybe, Could be over 7 weeks in total)

The NIE was similar. I am informed that once my paperwork is accepted for my Residentia it could take 6 months. You can not apply for the NIE at the same time as the Padron as you need an NIE for the Padron application. Getting just these 2 documents has taken more than 90 days.
So if I am allowed only 90 days in Spain without a Residentia then it is obvious that you could never get a Residentia legally as you need to be in Spain for longer than 90 days thereby breaking the law. So the way I see it is you have to become an illegal immigrant to get a Residentia.

Anyone got any ideas on how to get a residentia without breaking the 90 day ruling

Hello Flyren, I am afraid that the information you've been given is not exactly right and the time you waited excessive.  Our interpreter sorted it all for us in a few weeks. His email address is [email protected]

Once you have started the process and your application is in you are OK?..and you can sign on the padron without an NIE if you say you are waiting for it...I’ve just done it for my friend!

Youre S1 from UK is posted ...no meeting to attend

Post-Brexit applications, starting after 1/1/21, begin in the UK, by applying for a visa.

You may have to fly to and from Spain a couple of times. That is what non-Eu people have had to do to get Residencia for many many years.

Thanks for the replies. I have several friends in Spain who have a residentia. Not one of them could claim that the entire process (starting with NIE, then Padron etc) took less than 3 months(90days).

Just today I was talking to a friend who is hoping to get his Residentia next month. He started the process 8 months ago.  Obviously flying back and forth to Spain is not an option due to the 90 days in 180 days ruling. Plus COVID restrictions prevent anyone without a Residentia or Citizanship entering the country at the moment.

So I stand by my claim that it’s is not possible to get a Spanish Residentia in 90 days. There is always exceptions to this and I am sure that some may have done it in less than 90 days in the past however in the current climate of a 90 restriction on staying in Spain and an almost impossible situation in trying to get back after a further 90 days due to COVID the Residentia is not achievable under the current system.

Think your right.people on here go on and on about my solicitor did this and our interpreter did that and blablabla. The fact is this as long as your gullible enough to go through this process ie flights solicitor interpreter transport time waiting etc and say 1500 euro to 2000 euro later your their.Unfortunately it is very late for you to do it yourself indeed from my dealings with this beaurocratic crap system take some valium pills and sit back and relax and check your bank balance when you finally get your paperwork sorted. This system is useless and I'm not stupid by any means but unless you know people in the council office euntermenta? And a bloody good interpreter that can pre book appointments for an NIE TIE before you have all your own paperwork in order ie padron etc it's a long wait.PS sorry for being so negative but here in Spain is just not what your used to in the UK.

The system is not useless! Thousands of us have been there and done that during the past 40 odd years since Spain lost its dictatorship. Maybe it's just certain people who are the useless ones?

Certainly Covid has created an extra difficulty

However. the procedure for Non-Eu citizens, for example Canadians, Americans, Australians etc. wishing to obtain Spanish Residencia has not changed.

For them the Eu-wide Schengen 90 day rule and income level barrier has been in place for at least a decade.

It is not suddenly being imposed on the British.

The application for granting of a Visa for extended entry by non-Eu citizens, for the purpose of finalising their Residencia in fact has to be done in their home countries..(both application and when approved passport stamping)

All in all, it has always been an expensive exercise for those citizens but the British people chose to join that group.

Not the Spanish.
