Hi All

First posting so thanks for allowing us in.

Husband & Wife of 30+ years, finally decided to take the plunge and move to Spain!

I'm 55 and Nicky 53. With the sale of our UK property we hopefully can buy a property for about £140 - £150k and being frugal, live off the remaining monies til we hit retirement. We will have other monies coming in over the following years.

So, Mar Manor Golf Resort ....can we live full time here?

Is there a Brit community year round or does it all but die off in the winter?

Community fees, affordable?

We have never been to any of the Golf resorts and neither of us play, what we like is the secure clean environment on offer. We will be carrying out a viewing trip early 23.

We are torn between La Torre and Mar Menor so I'd be grateful if anyone could advise on for's or againsts each resorts?

Thank in advance

I’ve lived on Mar Menor Golf full time for almost 7 years and wouldn’t live anywhere else. There a year round community , lots to do, great bars and restaurants in and just outside the resort and less than ten minutes to the beach. You do need a car though!
community fees vary with each property but around 100€ a month average I guess. Pm me if you want any more info

We have a holiday home on Roda Golf resort,

Absolutely love it ,real mixture of nationalities and not met anyone that’s not friendly. Very secure bring a gated community .

Fees are we feel about right as we own a 3 bedroom townstyle house with a gated shared pool .

Very close to the Mar Menor promenade which we love .and can walk to Los Alcazares, which you can eat out ALL YEAR  long .

Not sure what the other resorts are like but would definitely look at this one 👍🏻

Think the Roda Golf resort properties are way out of our budget unfortunately Nigel!

Although, we have just looked and maybe not!!

£140k realistically our ceiling, pray tell us more about the resort????

Hi,  there has been a lot of pollution in the rivers around Mar Menor but all rivers lead to the sea.  Personally I wouldn’t swim there as you’re open to illness along with ear infections etc.   I would do your own research before committing.  Hope it all works out for what ever you decide.  👍

No comments on the locations, however, just checking that you know the requirements to get a visa to live in Spain? Particularly in that you need to prove 'means of maintenance' (i.e. money in the bank, shares or a passive income such as a property you rent out, etc.) of approx. €34,500 per annum for a couple.

You, obviously, don't have to spend that much, just be able to prove that you have it. You also need to get a Police certificate and take out private healthcare.

Hopefully, you're already aware of all this - but happy to answer any other related questions....

Thanks Rich

Yeah we are well up on the needs thank you. Been speaking to Venetia House who we will be using to obtain our NLV. The sale of our house, ok the remaining monies are to live on, will be more than enough to cover the 1st 5 years before we apply for residency...

Mar Menor is a beautiful resort and you definitely don’t have to be a golfer to enjoy it.  Community fees can be high. Mine for example is €170 per month for a small two bed semi. It is split into two, MM1 which consists of villas only most with their own private pool. MM11 which is a mixture of villas and flats. The community fees on MM11 tend to be cheaper as it is split between more properties.  The flats have access to the communal pools. Just outside the resort is El Boulevard which technically isn’t part of MMGR.  Be aware that if an agent tells you that you have access to the communal pools, this is not true, it’s for owners only.

I would suggest renting first. There are loads for rent on VRBO. A car is essential as there is no public transport.
