Re the flies in Santiago de la Ribera, I just wonder when you visited? If it was after the flooding I think everywhere was suffering with flies and mozzies. My daughter came to stay at the end of September/beginning of October and we ate at one of our favourite places on the seafront and were inundated with flies which we found unusual and put it down to the flooding. You do get a certain amount of flies everywhere when its hot but not to the extent following the flooding. As someone has already kindly pointed out though, do check the area you are looking at with regards to future flooding as it can be devastating. Luckily on the urbanisation in San Cayetano the houses seem to be built on slightly higher ground and therefore survived well.
