Just to say hello to group members.  I have an idea of residing in the San Javier area with my wife and step daughter.  I have never lived in Spain before, and nor has my family.  As a "newby" to this, what are the most important considerations to remember when researching this idea please? We hope to get residential status at some stage and buy property for ourselves.  I have an EU (Irish) passport and a UK passport but my wife and step daughter are from outside the EEA and EU.  Thanks in advance.

I would say that the most important thing to do before anything else, would be to come and spend some time in the area that you are looking at. All the research in the world will never come up to breathing in the air and personally "feeling" the atmosphere of a place. San Javier is a wonderful area, where you have everything that you could ask for, so that's a good start. Best of luck with your plans.

Thanks.  My wife has a sister living there to help.  Have you recent photos of the town and area to show please?  I believe it's a favourite for UK retirees, like myself.  So are there retirement-related support services for myself and my wife?  In English. Especially about local medical services (we don't speak Spanish yet).

If you join one of the Facebook groups from the San Javier area, you will find regular photos and information from people living there.

Here's one: https://www.facebook.com/groups/870393636335492

You might also want to join the Citizens Advice Bureau Spain's Facebook group, where you can find up-to-date information regarding the legal and medical requirements for non-EU citizens wishing to relocate to Spain. https://www.facebook.com/groups/171561296334693

Since Brexit, everything has changed and it's not as easy as it was before to move here. I'm afraid that I don't know what the latest requirements are to take advantage of the Spanish health system but I do know that private health insurance is necessary for at least the first year. There are several threads on this forum regarding the application for Non Lucrative Visas for non-EU citizens if you do a search on here.

Best of luck!

Hi, thanks again.  I do have a EU passport.  An Irish passport.  And of course the UK passport.  So this should make the Spanish bureaucracy burden easier.  My wife comes from outside the EU and EEA, as does my step daughter.  But I believe they can use my EU passport as family members.
