We are non resident in Spain, with a bank account to pay bills for long term rental. My bank is now saying I need a NIE number to continue to access this account, which is 2 years old. Is this new or am I being misled. If I don't need to I'd rather not go to this trouble, I'll change banks instead.
You will need to provide an NIE number & copy of your passport & proof of pension for tax purposes.
I just email all this sort of stuff to them & let them sort it out.

Sorry I should have said income.
They want a P60.

The simple answer is YES....you must have an NIE....don't understand how you have a bank account in Spain without one!

I did get a non resident bank account without a NIE but that was 15 years ago, I know these days you can't sneeze without one

Hi I understand that you need an NIE number to have A bank account. I found the Murcia Extrajneria ofica very helpful and eager to help in issuing one. I should get it before Brexit on 31/10/19. Or even earlier if you can. Plus it might be to your advantage to get your EU Green card as well
Thanks for all of the replies and advice. I'll be getting my NIE, before end October, as suggested.
