I have written a list of tips which may be useful to anyone thinking of buying a property in Spain. Unfortunately it does not cover any post Brexit issues.
If you buy a place to use for holidays at any time of year, you should consider anywhere from the Costa Blanca southwards, above that can get cold in winter.
If you buy an Apartment you need to consider that you will have a lot of neighbours, and dependent on which floor you are on and where your apartment is in the building, have neighbours above, below and possibly either side. (The Spanish people can be very loud, and their sleeping patterns often do not match with what we consider normal in the UK. i.e. Noisy very late at night, even during the week).
Also consider which direction your property faces. I know of some Apartments that face North hence they get a maximum of 2 – 3 hours a day of sunshine on their terrace.

One advantage of an Apartment is that if you are an absent owner you have more security as there are other people in the building.
If you buy a Villa there is less chance of being disturbed by neighbours but you have less security.
If you buy on a gated complex for example a golf course be aware that the community charges can be massive. 24 hour security 365 days a year does not come cheap.
I would recommend that before buying you rent for a minimum of 2 weeks in the area that you are thinking of buying in, that way you can get a real feel for the area, people, facilities etc.
If you decide to buy you need to be aware that inheritance tax laws in Spain are very complex and vary from region to region.
