Hi Denham 007, check out the AA route map, but plenty more to choose from too. We chose to go to Reimes, Lyon etc avoiding Paris for our first time drive with dogs. Good luck.

Hi Denham 007,

We have tried a few routes. We took the over night ferry from Portsmouth and docked Bilbao and drove straight to Sucina, its a long journey and took about 8 hours. Going back we did Santander to Portsmouth but stayed over night at Borgos which was much better and it was a pet friendly hotel.

We have also done the euro tunnel and stayed a couple of nights in France and Zaragoza and we are probably looking to do something similar this year.

Good luck with your move.

I know you're in Dover but we did Newhaven/Dieppe. (Cheap overnight). Then Bordeaux,  Pau and through the Pyranees. A great, picturesque trip. Then Zaragoza, Valencia, Costa Calida. I've done two or three other routes but loved this one.

Just wondered which route you took through the Pyrenees as we are going soon. We were planning on the toll free route through the Somport tunnel to avoid the tolls if taking the faster route a little further west through the Pyrenees. Any suggestions?

We lived in France for many years and came to Spain each 3inter before moving permanently was:

Angouleme to Pau, Zaragossa is signposted in Pau so follow signs, this will take you to Somfront Tunnel. Through the Tunnel head for Java, Huesca & Zaragissa. On the ringroad take Terkel turn off, at Terkel follow signs for Cuenta. For first 8-9 km the road winds through a very scenic, valley bottom before opening into a dual carriageway. At Cuenca follow signs for Albacete then Murcia.

The last time we made the journey it was toll free all the way, I haven’t heard any different.
