Moving from Dover through Spain to murcia, place near there called sucina

Hi. Your title asks for best route. I've driven from Dover to Costa Blanca and Costa Calida many times over the past 20 year's or so, and I don't think there is a 'best route'. I try and change the route each time to give a bit of variety, but if it's your first time I would recommend heading towards Bordeaux, go around the western edge of the Pyranees to Pamplona, and then Zaragoza, Valencia and Alicante.

The Somport tunnel route is lovely but the climb up through the French side can be a bit daunting first time (HGV's in the middle of the road). I've routed that way in the dark and snow, good fun, but not for the first trip. I've also routed down through the Massive Central to Perpignan and followed the coast via Barcelona etc. Going via Andora is great also, make sure you have an empty tank and fill up there.

It depends if you're in a hurry, but I always like to see as much of the country as I can, and I never use any toll roads. There is no need, the other roads are really good, except some off beat ones which my satnav suddenly decides I need to experience, but these are no worse than in the UK!

I've just done the Pamplona route and the roadworks around Bayonne are a bit of a pain at peak times.

Fuel is expensive in France now, so I fill up in the UK and then fill up as soon as I hit Spain. I can do it on just over two tanks of Diesel averaging 62mpg.

Bon voyage!

Hi

We've done this route twice this year. No tolls at all in Spain and it is a great route with very clear roads. We tend to follow theD834 into Pau, coming off the Bordeaux ring road and picking up the D10 which follows the Garonne. It a stunning route as well as being pretty fast. The Spanish leg out of the Pyrenees down to Zaragossa (and beyond down to Valencia via Teruel) goes over some fabulous viaducts.

Regards

Corinne
