To add to Simon,s info it's the nights that can be bitterly cold. Spanish homes are generally uninsulated and once the sun goes down (quite early in winter) the home becomes very cold. Ask the questions, central heating-tick, woodburner- tick, you will need them

Regards

Pauline

Yes we have definitely been looking if houses have some form of heating. 🙂

Simon is right, it does get cold at times! But to see the sun most days is a blessing. We don't live in Calasparra... we are in Mula which I believe is slightly warmer than Bullas, Calasparra, Cehegin etc. Our house had CH but we found it so expensive to run that we had it taken out. We have solar panels on the roof which pay for a lot of our usage during the day. Also we have solar panels to warm the pool. In the summer, the water temp gets up to 30+. We used to have someone clean the pool for us but now we find it is cheaper and easier to have an electric pool cleaner. The cost was offset after the first year. We have dual aircon in 3 rooms which helps keep us warm in winter and cool in summer, and of course the sun pays for quite a bit of that.

Good luck with your search. One thing we have found wherever we go in NW Murcia is that the Spanish people are super friendly, welcoming and so helpful.

We had Solar as part of the regulation change in 2008 when we bought our new build but after a number of years we de-commissioned it as the water got so hot (in the Summer) it used to blow the Thermostatic Valve.  Our opposite neighbour is also taking theirs out for the same reason.  We have gone for a Gas Water Heater our neighbours Electric.. We had a Pellet Fire installed after the 1st year of living here.   A wood burner is nice to sit in front of and warm your toes but it was smelly, dirty and hard work chopping the logs !  Storing them was also an issue.   Our fire heats all of the ground floor (where we live) and upstairs is just for guests and if they come in the Winter (not yet in 14 years) but there is an Air Con inverter unit in the bedroom.  It is all down to personal choice but we have found our heating / cooling / water heating is just about right, for us anyway.  We have a wrap around terrace and when that was covered in with a room and windows, it kept the house warmer in the winter.  Calasparra people are very friendly and whilst when we came here no one spoke English - there are quite a few now in the shops / bars & restaurants that can speak a little.  Good supermarket Consum stocks a few English products but there a few independent ones and DIA if you need a change.  The Calasparra Fiesta has been on this week and to see the things that were going on, check out the You Tube videos of the Bull Runs and the Town Hall Facebook page for pictures of the activities.
