Hi, With regards to Sabadell,( with whom I have banked with for 13 years) I was charged this month a quarterly 15 € fee for my Expansion account ,( Which has always been free)

They say they sent out an e mail last year ( Which I never saw ) to say as of March if you do not take any insurance, pensions etc with them you will no longer be able to have free banking, sow how is that for a legal rip off....

...

This information was given to me yesterday from the information desk

Vote with your feet & take your business elsewhere.

Plenty of options available nowadays.

Yes I can do as you say, but instead of giving flippant advice how about telling us where we can take our feet and where all these options are

Blatantly not correct information "obviously banking is free for residents with all the Spanish banks."

Sorry Peter, you are correct NOW, but in the past resident accounts could be found by most banks free of charges, hence all the present complaints from residents now. However it has been a rarity to find a free non resident account having spent weeks of researching all the Spanish banks, so I,ll stand corrected now but 3 months ago??

Regards

Pauline.

Hi All

Thank you very much for all the tips so far, I will look into them all. It's the transferring of the direct debits, water, electric that I'm most worried about. Don't want to get cut off! Anyone use Caixa bank?

Cheers Dave

We are in  the final stages of buying a holiday home too, but are going down the route of using Transferwise to pay the final funds through and also to set up the water and electricity direct debits.  Someone on this forum recommended it as I was against paying bank charges too.

It was me that recommended TransferWise.

👍👍

I have also set up all my Spanish direct debits up on TransferWise as well.

These days you don't really need a Spanish bank account.

Yes that is right. It's expensive for non residents but you need to consider service as well. My Sabadell branch have always been very helpful and speak good English as well. I suppose you get what you pay for.

I am a resident and for residents sabadell bank in Puerto de mazarron is excellent. We used to get free banking if we deposited €700 monthly then they brought in recently the €5 pm fee. When I queried this we were told they will waive this if you take our insurance which I thought would be expensive.  We took out dental insurance at €7.50 pm each which was worth it so it's worth looking at options. Hope this helps
