EU PASSPORT - Page 4

Thank you yes it is going to be a long haul, we’ve started the application, it could be 30 months , but it is giving us longer to learn Spanish, so that’s a bonus, plus it’s giving us plenty of time for us to come get a home feeling , means we can start renting ,find the exact place , plus im wanting to make sure my aunt is making the right decision, me once she is settled then I can make the final decision for me .She just wants  to have sun in rest of her life and she’s feel in love with camposol ,it’s the sense of community, we had that in the seventies growing up but sadly community has gone we’re we live , she’s  the last of my family and I’ll do anything to make sure the last thirty years of her life will be filled with sun and fun ,thank any help is truly always helpful, it’s much easier when your there but till your there it’s always useful to help from ones that are living so again thank you very much 

We stopped being "British Subjects" in 1948!

   "The British Nationality Act 1948 redefined British subject as any citizen of the United Kingdom, its colonies, or other Commonwealth countries."

Some of us who were not born in the UK didn't, as the Act did not apply to us.

I was born in Ireland and like a great many born overseas, I was a 'British Subject' and had a British Subject passport until 1989 when I applied for an acquired British Citizenship, which I was granted in 1989,  as both my parents served in the British Armed Forces during ww2 and I had lived long term in the UK.

My wife has similar experience. She was born in Jamaica of British born parents (actually Scotland & The Channel Islands) and was a 'British Subject' until about 30 years ago.

A number of well known people have been 'victims' of the British Subject rule. One of the best known was Spike Milligan. He was denied a British passport, even though his mother was a British Subject and he had served in the British Army during WW2..  Fortunately, he was able to claim Irish Citizenship.

Things are often much more complex than they seem!

Correct that there is no EU passport, though a passport issued by an EU member state is commonly and or generically referred to as an EU passport. 

What's the story with "the so called EU" which you have put into this thread a few times? Unless I (and probably millions of others) am mistaken, it is called the EU. 

I do apologise it just seemed the proper category when your looking on camposol forum  site the category is EU and passport, so I guess that’s why I and maybe other people are just calling it Eu passport, yes it’s Eu citizen quite correct, I am applying through Irish citizen ship , the same way I have a Canadian passport, and a American passport, but thank you again any information is always useful thank you Hugh 

Hugh, no worries about your post. My comment and question was directed to frequent flyer. The term "so called.... " is usually used when trying to indicate that someone or something is incorrect or not suitable. Sometimes used in an attempt to discredit the group/organisation/person referred to.

An English, Irish, Canadian and American passport……

If you get an Irish passport, you will be treated like all other EU citizens and need to follow the rules for them.

Thank you I look back at my family history and I’m so proud of all the woman in my past meeting men from around the world, I get the chance to apply for passports !, if only my gran had meet a Spanish fisherman, this would be so much easier, I blame mum for all this she had Italian boyfriend then they broke up , and she met my small red heard stamp collecting dad , what was she thinking? If it was back to future, I go back and say no mum one day we’ll be out the EU.and it will harder for me to get a passport so stay with your Italian boyfriend , I like to be also known as Marty mcshug lol
